I stopped buying A Reader’s Guide to the Underground Press (also known as Zine World) a while back, because even though the information is good and I like the articles, I frequently find myself put out with the tone of the reviews. It’s probably just a case of a few bad apples making the whole barrel look rotten, and there is now a trend of offering “second opinion” reviews in some instances. Anyway, there is something to be said for vanity when it comes to getting a writer to cough up a few bucks, because in issue 18 they reviewed my comic and I bought it. Hook, line and sinker.
Really, though, I read every review in here and maybe it’s gotten better, or maybe I just judged to harshly in the past, because I found them to be generally more well-considered than I remembered. And I still like the articles.

Reviewer Stefano writes: “I laughed my ass off at this excellent comic retelling of Frankenstein. In this adaptation, Dr. Colin Clive brings a fat, middle-aged antiques dealer back to life only to have his creation shunned by society. Tired of being alone, the “monster” demands a domestic partner of his own. With the help of Dr. Elsa Carradin, [sic] Dr. Clive creates the monster’s mate from the remains of a hunky party boy struck dead during a gay pride parade. The macabre first-rate [sic] illustrations of Matt Fagan are delightfully gory. This comic zine is well worth the price. Highly recommended." 1
