FIRST HALF

2' Zidane is trying to do a trick, but fails. It isn't going to be the Frenchmen's night. Nor his picture as being a gentleman stayed up on Wednesday March 6. He was involved in the 9th minute fight, called at least one player of Deportivo a puta and made a very nasty challenge on Sergio in the second half.

3' Tristán has the first change of the match. The ball comes from the rightwing, and Pavón misses it. Tristán does not hesitate and curles the ball to the top corner. Real Madrid goalkeeper César can get his hand to it.

4' One of the many attempts of Real Madrid to intimidate Deportivo, making dives near the box. Figo is known for it, and he even got a free-kick for this one.

6' Sergio scores the first goal of the match. He makes Hierro look like an old man, and beats goalkeeper César through his legs. Watch the replay also.

9' The goal of Deportivo brought tension in the match. Raúl fouls Mauro Silva, but get's away with it. Lionel Scaloni makes a harsh challenge after it, but plays the ball. A small fight breaks out.

12' Deportivo have gained confidence out of the goal, and dominate the match. Deportivo supporters shout "ole! ole!" in the Bernabeú stadium.

14' Another try of Robert Carlos to earn a free kick. He get's an A+ for his twist! Still Madrid were awarded a free-kick for it.

15' This dive is of Michel Salgado, a nice dive indeed. Deportivo got the free-kick.

26' Hierro just cannot handle Diego Tristán, and get's booked. Doesn't he deserves the red card for it, being the last defender?

35' Figo was totally out of this match. Only looking for fouls and free-kicks, which he hardly got. And when there was time to make an action like at this moment, Figo failed.

36' Another sad attempt of Figo to earn a free-kick. Nothing was given, and the match continued.

38' Tristán scores the second goal in favour of Deportivo. As the replay shows, it's NOT offside at all and Tristán beats César. Look at the supporters of Deportivo celebrating this one. Also two replays are available: replay I and  replay II.

SECOND HALF

50' Valerón has another great chance for Deportivo to finish off this match. Watch also in the replay how Valerón is just too much for Michel Salgado.

65' Mauro Silva was enormous on March 6. Solari can only stop Mauro Silva by standing on his foot. Solari got booked for this foul.

69' Solari is a quick learner at Real Madrid. Close to the penalty box, he tries to earn a free kick. In vain.

69' Sergio also had the chance to decide the match. He is presented a shot on goal by Lionel Scaloni, but fails.

78' Real Madrid do not learn. This time Guti makes a theatrical dive. Deportivo were awarded a free-kick.

79' Zidane was never into this match, and looks like giving up.

81' Now Zidane has other intentions. The Frenchman loses his head, and challenges Sergio from behind. Where he deserved a red card, he wasn't even booked!

AFTER THE MATCH

While Deportivo celebrate, Raúl cries and Hierro argues with the referee. It must have been something like this. "What's this ref? It's our Copa!! We paid for it, so we should have won it! And we earned at least three penalties!". While this continues, 25.000 Deportivo supporters celebrate the win.
