PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
DATA I/O For five years running, Data I/O had entered the High Technology Show only to have the latest inventions place 5th at best.
Once dePillis took over the Project, the first item to accomplish was to be familiar with the product.
Next, technical writing skills were used to translate the "tekie-ese" into "English" for the jugdges.
The astonishing success surprised everybody, including the second runner up in the competition,
Hewlet Packard. Yes, with dePillis managing the project, finally Data I/O claimed first prize in the
division it entered.
EARTHLINK & MINDSPRING ISP
The merger of Earthlink and Mindspring required aggressive technical project management.
Dissimilar technologies had to be blended seamlessly, so as to provide the customers with
continued positive user experiences. Quality Assurance and Oracle databases needed to
be re-designed. Gap analysis and business analysis was required. Once the decided
technologies were selected and implimented, then training of new staff commenced.
dePillis spearheaded the entire project while she and her staff simultaneously provided
individualized attention to projects currently underway by such large clinets as Sprint.
dePillis recieved many positive accolades and bonuses for the amazing feats accomplished.
ENCRYPTIX
The success of the projects at Earthlink put dePillis on the map. Upper management
asked that dePillis work on a new project with new technologies and start it up as a
new compnay requireing structure, analysis, establish QA proceedures and testing
ceremonies, etc. The executive management at Earthlink asked dePillis to go to
Encryptix and wrestle the bull by the horns. dePillis siezed the opportunity to work
with new technolgy and manage a 10 million dollar budget, establish software configuration
managment department, establish quality testing and assurance department, and a process
whereby the coders and programmers and Oracle DBAs would be helped by the new proceedures and not
stifled. The success in this company was recognized by upper management.
NORTHROP
After the Los Angeles Riots, Northrop wanted to protect the staff by building a
"red button room" that would shut down all access into the plant, should an emergecy
arise. This project not only required knowledge of computer systems, but also of
construction practices. dePillis coordinated this grey-world security clearance project
with city officials, fire departments, construction crews, surrounding high-security "black world"
projects and Northrop executives.
The successful project came in on budget and slightly ahead of schedule.
LIGHTSPAN EDUCATIONAL SOFTWARE
At Lightspan, a recent merger left behind relic tools and incompatible technologies.
dePillis assessed the current tools with a gap and system analysis, and then suggested
modifications, which were implimented. After everything was installed, dePillis created
training materials and trained the Administrators and other staff on how to use the
newly customized methods. Software configuration management proceedures were
establsihed and customized with Merant's PVCS. The project finished under budget and
ahead of schedule.
NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL LIFE INSURANCE
At Northwestern Mutual, an expansion of service offerings created a need to replace
an existing archaic $30 million dollar computer system with something new and up to date.
It also required not interrupting the team of existing project manager who were in charge
of making system modifications. Work needed to progress as if no interruptions were made.
dePillis successfully established a Software Configuration Management department and
coordinated with all levels of executive staff, programmers, Quality Assurance, data integrity, coders
and programmers, and Data base administrators to make sure that thier work was not
hampered in any way while this major project was underway. dePillis wrote up the
gap analysist and sytem analysis and proposed suggestions for improved effeciency, which
were implimented. dePillis also created materials and actually trained staff on how to
maintain the new systems.
