Costello Murder Rap
Hub cops say mob boss executed man on banks of Charles River
APRIL 1--Frank Costello, the reputed Irish ganglord, was charged today with the cold-blooded murder of the last honest man in Boston. According to the Suffolk District Attorney's office, Costello shot the victim, a baggage handler at Logan Airport, for refusing to work for him. A soon-to-be assassinated witness told investigators that Costello, who was already under suspicion for several other homicides, gunned down the man at point-blank range. Pictured in the mugshot below, Costello was released tonight from the Suffolk County Jail after posting $100,000 bond. "When I was your age," he told reporters waiting for him outside, "they would say you could become cops or criminals. What I'm saying is this: When you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference? It's the pension, of course. And the cars. We drive cooler cars."
