The Playing Season

The previous 20 Days have covered the Pre-season practices; we are now starting with the Playing Season (Competitive Season). We are going to concentrate on two aspects of the game:
  • Day one of the week - Technical Aspects of Play (Example: Day XXX (ODD DAYS) - Close Range Shooting for Strikers, 16 yard clearance from Defenders using "Escape Routes", Short Corner pushing and stopping for the short corner battery - basic techniques are coached)
  • Day two of the week - Match Play (Example: Day XYZ (EVEN DAYS) - Defensive Pattern transition from Offensive Pattern - GK-2-3-3-2 to Defensive Pattern - GK-1-3-4-2)
Technical Aspects of Play - are concentrated on grass to develop and enhance the Basic and Advanced Skills, where Match Play concentrates on Astroturf.

Match Play (1  hours)
  • Three main components to practices:
  • Warm-up (10 minutes);
  • Individual / Small Game Play - this would normally be an extract from "Technical Aspects of Play" individual skills (20 minutes);
  • Match Play - this is generally an Astroturf practice of "Technical Aspects of Play" which was practiced on grass on the previous "Technical Aspects of Play" practice session (30 minutes);
  • Short Corner Variations (30 minutes).
    NOTE: Not all of the above will be used each week; aspects do differ based upon what is happening in the season and with the teams. The aim is for the 2nd and lower sides to be coached the same techniques as the 1st side.
