AQUARIUM & EXPO PARK   

E.xpressway to end, then onto 58.  Take Route 84, left.  At Route 449 turn left  (pass Ocean Farming Ctr).  At Route 114 take left  (pass Spiral tower), turn right into Aquarium.

 

BEACHES

 

ARAHA BEACH (& Pirate Ship Park)

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58.   As Rt 130 (just as you get to Foster Base), turn right (Bakery Castle on right).  At next light turn left.  Just before bridge turn right and to towards beach to park.  Beach will be on other side of canal. 

 

MAEDA POINT (and Flats)

Kadena Gate 1 or 4, turn right onto 58 North, at Ryukyu Mura Fairy, turn left.  At Brown sign with yellow and white lettering on left side of road ... turn left. (if you come to "T", you have past it, so take L at "T").  At "Cape Maeda   0.5 km" sign, turn right.  Follow straight to Maeda Point.  Just before end turn left and park at first opening on the right for the "Flats".

 

OR  58 North past Renaissance Hotel, take  road #6, turn left, look for signs to Maeda Point. 

 

Scenic Route:   58 North to road #6 (to Torii Station), stay on #6 past Torii, pass turtle tombs, and look for sign for Maeda point, turn left, follow to beach.  

 

MAMASAN  (Oodomari Beach)  977-8027

Kadena Gate 3, right.  Take left at road #74 (first walk over bridge).  It will turn into road #16.  When you get to the "T" turn right onto road #8 (sign says to Heshikiya).  Turn left at Road #10, you'll be going to Ikei Island.  You will drive a while, going over a red 'spined'  bridge ... through/past Henza & Miyagi Islands.  ** At one point you will come to a horseshoe turn, take the road that goes off straight (don't follow the horseshoe), follow this on a very scenic road ** and eventually over a small red bridge ... after a while, you will go over a large RED bridge. 

 

After this red bridge, you'll pass Ikei Beach then take the second left.  There is a sign on the left-it has black, blue and red lettering and a red "Coca Cola" symbol in the lower left corner, there is also a blue arrow to the left.  Follow the road back past some tombs on the right and along this road til you see two signs on the left (one is the same sign as before).  There will be a little shack on the left (pay here) and a parking lot on the right past that.

 

**the horseshoe road takes you on the other side of the aquaduct across from where you just came from.  If you take this road, you'll come to a "T", take the right turn ... you'll be back on the correct road. 

 

ONNA POINT

58 North, pass the signs for the #7 entrance to the Expressway. (Of course, you can take the Expressway to Exit 7, exit towards East China Sea, turn right at light onto 58.)

 

As you come into the next community, the 1st (I think) light, turn left, there will not be a right turn, it'll be just past a school on the left  (if you get to a Family Mart or Larsen's on the right, you've gone too far). 

 

Road will become dirt quickly, stay on main section of the road (will go off to the right at curve past the tombs, stay on main dirt road til open field (BMX tracks, etc).  Stay to the left and follow through some pretty rocky terrain.  Park in the areas, or go up over hill and down to beach (if you have good 4-wheel drive like vehicle).   

 

 

SESOKO ISLAND

58 or Expressway to Nago.  Take 449 towards Motobu Port, pass Port on left turn left onto 172, go across bridge to island **.  Go to flashing light,  take second right (sign with arrow on it), follow road to right to school, take left curve (big mirror on left), turn right and follow down to beach.

 

(Diving Magazine - from **go 1.2K, pass sleepy Sesoko Town and turn right at blue sign with kanji and red arrow and a golf course.  Go around golf course fairways, take left at end of road, left again onto gravel road before beach.) 

 

 

TOGUCHI BEACH

Kadena Gate 1, turn right.  After McDonald's, when you come to the light at Kadena Gate 4, turn right.  At 2nd light (not counting turn intersection) as road forks - stay to left.  Cross bridge, when you come to next  light (gas station on right,  w/white sign (Japanese writing and "1 km." arrow to left), turn right onto road w/white sign (same except "500 m"), follow to beach.

 

 

TORII BEACH

Kadena Gate 1, turn right.  2^nd light after McDonald's, when you come to the light at Kadena Gate 4, turn right.  At 2nd light (not counting turn intersection) as road forks - stay to left.  Cross bridge, after next  light (gas station on right), go through light then take the left turn.  Follow down til you see the gate on the right, go through gate and follow road til you come to the next gate.  You will see parking lot for Torii Beach on left.

 

 

ZAMPA TIDEPOOLS

58 North to 12, take a left.

 

MISC. MERCHANTS

AUTO REPAIRS

Payless Motors:  Kadena Gate 1, turn right.  Pass Kadena Marina, pass next light (at KFC) is to Naval Kadena Shopping Center, Payless will be on the left after another block.  It's a blue building.  Good for JCI and other car repairs, not for A/C.

 

FISH MARKET (Awase Wharf)

Kadena Gate 2 (Rt 20), almost all the way to Pacific Ocean.  At Rt 227 turn left, at next light turn right.  Go to street in front of parking lot and turn right.  Market is on Right, can park in that lot or the larger lot on left.

 

FABRIC STORES

HOUSE OF 66    Kadena Gate 2 to overpass, turn right onto 330, past Foster stay straight (on 81) as 330 turns left, store will be down on left side of street.

    OR   Kadena Gate 1, left onto 58 South, turn left onto 81 after  Foster Base.  After 3^rd light you will see the store on the right, but there is an island so you will have to go to the 4^th light and turn around.

 

NAVAL KADENA   Kadena Gate 1 right, turn left at Lawson's mart at light after Marina, turn right at stop, then left into parking lot. Store is across from Toys-R-Us on 2nd floor.

 

3 ELEPHANT (Store with Elephants on it)      

Kadena Gate 2, at "4 Corners" (overhead crosswalk) turn right onto Rt 330.  Pass Foster gates, as 330 turns to the left, take turn, follow thru several lights.  At light at bottom of hill from LDS Church, turn right.  After 1^st light, store will be on right.

    OR   Kadena Gate 1, left onto 58 South, turn left at Rt 81, just after Foster Base.  At 4th light, turn right, at "T" turn left, after 2nd light will find store on left (before you get to 330).

 

Farmer's Market (Veggies)

Kadena Gate 2, at 4 corners (Rd. 330) turn left, 5th light (Kamara Rd), turn Left (bowling pin on top of bldg just before 4th light) go about 1/2 Kilometer down, small red & blue flags on right just before going over a small canal bridge,  pull in just past flags thru building, parking in back. 

 

FLOWERS

For "wholesale" type: 

Kadena Gate 5, go straight out.  Pass Apple Store (it's a Co-op) and continue on for one block.  Park in the little lot on the corner on the right (on side of street away from Kadena) and walk down the same street.  You will find a building (2^nd or 3^rd) with a "tent" like front.  This is the florist.

 

 

GLASSWARE FACTORY

RyuKyu Glassware Factory in Itoman    blow your own glass (Y1500, 10am only)

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58.  Continue on to 231 past Airport.  Onto 331 going south (don't take loop off to right), Ryukyu Glass Village will be after Minami Namihira to right.

 

OKINAWA FOLK ART CENTER   (on Kokosai Street)

Lacquerware & other traditional Okinawan Art.  Kadena Gate 1, left onto 58.  Pass Kinser, Turn left at Kumoji Street, Kokusai will be street at second light.  You can also enter Kokusai Street from 330 going to the right on 29.  The Art Center is across from the Mitsukoshi Department Store (new building on the corner with a nice plaza in front) just down from Heiwadori.  Schilling has a brochure, they can help with reservations.  Open from 10-6 with parking below building.

 

Paint Shop

(The only paint store that actually matches your swatch of color. He prefers to match your item verses picking from his own selection. The other store cost up to 500 yen a gallon whereas here it's only 300 yen with the exact color you want!)  Head south on 58 pass Futenma 1^st Gate, it's on the corner before next stop light after overpass before "SHARP" Electronics store.

Comprehensive Park

Kadena Gate 2, At Rt 329 turn right, Park will be on right side of road before you get to Rt 81.  You can also access part from Rt 81. 

 

FUKUSHUEN (Chinese Gardens)

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58.  After passing Tomari (several lights more) look for 42, next is  Komoji Street, turn right, Fukushuen will be on the left.  There should be a white sign on 58.  Can contact Junko Yogi 090-7163-5538, professional tour guide at Fukushuen, Y3000 per hour for groups of 2-30. 

 

Okinawa City Park (Yaejima)

Kadena Gate 2, turn left onto 85.   Take third light to the right into the park. 

 

Red Bridge Walking Trail (on way to Torii)

Kadena Gate 1, Left onto 58.  Pass light to Naval Kadena Shopping Center, go to next light (4^th light after turning onto 58) and turn Left.  Just before you reach the Seawall, turn right (it's a parallel road to the Seawall).  Follow road past Marina, turn left on street right after Marina, and park in lot just under Bridge.

 

Sunabe Baba Park (Whale/dolphin)

Kadena Gate 1, turn right.  At next light turn left.  At end of road, turn to left.  About .4 Km down street you will see a sign for the park on the right side of the road at a street with a tall white building on the corner, turn right.  Ball field on left and Park on right.  Park has a beach, skate park, children's play park, picnic pavilions, etc.

Kadena Gate 3, take immediate right at light, pass SunSea, go to 2nd overpass (right after first one) Rd 85, and turn left.  Go down to Apple Store, turn right on road in front of Apple Store, go a couple blocks, restaurant is on right, has 'smile' with BIG written inside smile.

 

CAPRIOSOSA'S    (Italian fare)

Kadena Gate 1, left onto 58, turn right at Johnny's Used Cars (across from Lester first gate) go to second light, turn left, park in lot.  Restaurant is beside Tony Romas, right of Jusko as you are facing towards beach.    Some Favorites:  Pasta with chicken & broccoli , Pastw with Salmon with a tomato cream sauce. 

 

DARUMA SOBA     (soba, rice, Japanese fare)

Kadena gate 2, turn right onto 23, turn Left at 85.  (Kadena 5, left, then right at first light onto 85)  Daruma is the Japanese Mask (red face), the Restaurant is on the left a light or two before you reach Plaza Housing.

Kadena Gate 1, turn right onto 58 South, pass Hambytown, take next light right,  restaurant 1/2 block on left.   Closed Monday

 

FAB  (Curry house overlooking Sunabe Seawall)

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58.  At 3^rd light turn right.  Before you get to "T" you will see parking lot on left behind Dragon Palace.  Park.  Restaurant is on second floor, under Ferris Wheel.

OR  From Kadena Gate 1, left onto 58, straight south on 58 to 34.  Turn left onto 34 heading east quite a ways probably 3-4 k at least.  Kame will be on your right slightly past the Eneos station on the left, park underneath if there is room. 

 

KITAKAISEN    (Sushi, noodles, etc)

Kadena Gate 1 left (Kadena Gate 5, take a right out gate, look for Hammer and Coco's, turn left at next light where big bowling pin is)  ..... Road 23 (just S of Kadena) left ...  1st light at Chatan Sport Center (big bowling pin) on right, turn right-go  back into complex.  Some favorites:  Seafood Salad, Mexican Salad

Kadena Gate 2, right at "crossroads" onto 330.  Plaza Shopping Center on left side of road, Krishna's is on 3rd floor in main building.

 

MARINO'S     (Italian)

Kadena Gate 3, take immediate right at light, go to 2nd overpass (right after first one) Rd 85, and turn left.  Go down past Apple Store to Main City Mall, Restaurant is in the lot, by the street.

 

OBBLIGATO    (Mexican)

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58.  Restaurant will be on right side of road.

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58, turn right at Johnny's Used Cars (across from Lester first gate) go to end of street, Restaurant is last building before beach.  Park in last lot on left (will  be just before Puna Puna and will say its is for the restaurant).  Lunch Buffet is 1000 yen.

 

ROSE GARDEN    (Italian)

Kadena Gate 2 street, turn right at overwalk onto 330.  Go past Kishaba housing area, restaurant will be on left.

 

RYU-GYU-OU   (Korean BBQ)

Kadena Gate 1, go straight thru light into lot across street from Kadena.  Restaurant is next to "Pizza Inn" behind Family Mart.

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58, after turnoff for Okinawa Convention Center across from Foster, will be on Right side of Street, look for a large anchor.

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58, turn right at Johnny's Used Cars (across from Lester first gate) go past 2^nd light and into parking lot that will be on the right.  Mini mall is the tall building left of Makeman (as you are facing North).  Restaurants are upstairs over McDonalds.  Taiyo Ichiba  880 yen lunch buffet,  Seaside Market   1000 yen lunch buffet

Kadena Gate 3 straight.  Turn to signs for Botanical Garden.  At entrance to parking lot for Gardens (on left), Soba house is on Right.

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58.  At Hanbytown (first light after 130 to Foster Gate 4), turn right.  At light turn left.  Zen will be down street on right.

Ashibinaa Outlet Mall

Kadena Gate 1, onto 58.  58 turns into 331.  331 will have a business loop to the right, stay to the left (towards Uehara), then continue to 249.  Turn right onto 249 to Ashibinaa Outlet Mall.

 

Ginowan Plaza    (100 Yen store, Uniglo)

Kadena Gate 1, left onto 58 South, after Foster Commissary (Kitamae) gate, take 1st light - right.   2nd light turn right, go left into Shopping Ctr.  100 Yen store in right corner.  A Uni-Glo is also in that shopping center.

 

Hambytown San A (San ei)     (100 Yen, Groceries, Department)

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58.  Pass Lester and  road 130, continue on, your landmark is the Large Yellow Block with 3 red triangle shapes on it.  At the light where that block is, turn right, turn left into the parking lot, enter upstair parking garage to the left at the end of the store.  100 Yen section is on the 2^nd floor. 

 

There are many other San A, all over island, marked with large yellow block with 3 red triangle shapes.  Larger ones often have 100 yen section.

 

Jusko at Chatan       (Department, Groceries)

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58, turn right at Lester Hospital gate (away from Lester).  After 2^nd light, turn right into lot and then immediately left to go up ramp into roof parking.  You can also park in the outside lots.  (not far from Ferris Wheel)

 

Jusko Mall - Rts 85 & 33   (100 Yen, Groceries, Department)

Kadena Gate 3, take immediate right at light, go to 2nd overpass (right after first one) and turn left, continue on til just before 33, mall is on right.  Many stores in the mall, as you look a the front side of the building, the 100 Yen store will be on the far right side, upstairs.  Jusko is on the left side.  Below Yen store is a nice 'home' store.

 

KOKUSAI STREET  

Kadena Gate 1, left onto 58.  Pass Kinser, Turn left at Kumoji Street, Kokusai will be street at second light.  You can also enter Kokusai Street from 330 going to the right on 29. 

 

Main City Mall  (San A) Rt 85      (100 Yen, Groceries, Department)

Kadena Gate 3, take immediate right at light, go to 2nd overpass (right after first one) and turn left.  Go down past Apple Store to San A yellow block on right, that is the Mall. 

 

Makemon    [Monkey Store]     (100 Yen, Department, Garden)

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58, turn right at Johnny's Used Cars (across from Lester first gate) go to second light, turn right after Ferris Wheel.  Store is on left side of Street.

 

Max Value  Rt 20      (100 Yen, Groceries, Department)

Kadena Gate 2.  Continue down til you find MaxValue store on right (will not be far from Sam's by the Sea).  100 Yen store is on 2^nd floor.

 

 

VILLAGES & SITES

 

Naval Kadena         (100 Yen, Groceries, Department, Do-it-yourself, etc)

Kadena Gate 1 right, turn left at KFC at light after Marina, turn right at stop, then left into parking lot.  100 yen on first floor in building across from Shakey's Pizza. 

 

Gyokyusendo Kingdom Village:  Expressway to exit Haebana Minami 1C.  Take 507 to the South.  Take Left (?) onto 131 at Kochinda Minami.  Left onto 17 after Aragusuku.   

 

Murasaki Mura Park:   North on 58, left at road 6 (pass Torii Station).  At 6^th light after Torii Station, turn left.  Follow Signs for Hotel Arivira til you reach the Village (before hotel). 

 

Ryukyu Mura Village:  North on 58.  About 3^rd light after road #12, follow signs to Village.

 

Shurijo Park: ("jo" means Castle)  Expressway to Nishahara 1C Exit.  Exit towards left, merge into traffic, take first left turn (short version of 240).  At top of ramp turn left, go to end of road (it will "T".  Turn left onto 240.  Turn left onto road 38.  Turn right onto road 29.  Continue on road, take left onto 49, should be able to find signs to the Shurijo Park.

Kadena Gate 2.  At Koza Baptist Church (on left), turn right. 

 

MILITARY BASES

COURTNEY    (Camp)

Kadena Gate 3 (Rt 36) straight to "T" Rt 329.  Turn left.  At Rt 8 turn right.   (McTureous will be on the right)  Continue on to Rt 75, turn left.  After several lights Courtney will be on right.

 

FOSTER/BUTLER    (Camp)

Kadena Gate 1 turn left onto 58.  Pass Lester on right.  Continue down to next military base on left, that will be Camp Foster.  The Gate on 58 is Gate 5 "Commissary Gate".

 

FUTENMA    (MCAS)

Kadena Gate 1, turn left onto 58.  Pass Lester, Foster.  After United missionary Baptist Church on the left will be the turn to go into Futenma Base Main Gate.

 

HANSEN    (Camp)

Expressway North to Kin Exit (#8).  Get off expressway, go to beach and turn left onto 329.  Gate will be 5-6 minutes up the road and on the left.

 

KINSER    (Camp)

Kadena Gate 1, turn left.  Pass Lester, Foster & Futenma.  After a "San A" on the right, you will come to a Pizza House on the left, this is right before Kinser Gate 3. 

 

McTUREOUS (Camp)

Kadena Gate 3 (Rt 36) straight to "T" Rt 329.  Turn left.  At Rt 8 turn right.   McTureous will be on the right. 

 

TORII STATION

Kadena Gate 1, turn right.  After McDonald's, when you come to the light at Kadena Gate 4, turn right.  At 2nd light (not counting turn intersection) as road forks - stay to left.  Cross bridge, stay straight and follow road til you get to "T".  Turn left.  Second light will be at Torii's Main Gate, turn left into gate. 

 

SCHWAB    (Camp)

Expressway North to Ginoza Exit (#9).  Get off expressway, left onto 329.  About 20 minutes will be on the right.

 

SHIELDS    (Camp)

Kadena Gate 3.  Head straight out gate.  After Chibana Golf Course turn, take the next turn off to the left. 

 

WHITE BEACH

Kadena Gate 3, turn right at light onto 85.  At 1^st Overwalk, turn left onto 74, this turns into 16.  At 10 turn right.  As 10 goes off to left, stay straight, turns into 8.

It's as close as you get to going to "Chucky Cheese"! Described as having an Athletic Paradise, Toddler Corner, Fast Food, Game Corner and Quite view room. Entry fees weekdays are 100 yen per Guardian, 18mos. - 35mos. are 500yen and 600 yen 3-12yrs. Go south on 58 towards Naha, before Camp Kinser Gate 2 there is a Toyota Dealership on the left and Ryukyu Daihatsu on the right. (If you pass a Pizza House you've gone too far or Camp Kinser) At this light make a U turn and head back north and turn left into the parking after the Daihatsu shop.
