First Round: Chisago Lakes (7-20-0, #9 seed) defeated Simley (3-23-0, #8 seed) 4-2. Chisago Lakes led 3-0 before Simley came back with a pair of goals to make it 3-2 after two. In the third period, sophomore forward Cory Lushanko of the Wildcats salted the game away with a power play tally at 11:40. Chisago Lakes outshot Simley 33-24. For Chisago Lakes, Lushanko, sophomore forward Andrew Habel, and sophomore defenseman Jeff Sargeant each had 1 goal, 1 assist. For Simley, senior forward Joe Lanik had 1 goal, 1 assist. Goalies: Chisago Lakes - sophomore Kyle Buchanan, Simley - junior Andrew Nelson. Quarterfinals: St. Thomas Academy (20-4-2, #1 seed) defeated Chisago Lakes (7-21-0, #9 seed) 10-1. St. Thomas Academy took control with a 7-1 bulge after two periods. The Cadets outshot Chisago Lakes 42-13. For St. Thomas Academy, sophomore forward AJ Reid had 2 goals, 1 assist and junior forward Christian Isackson and junior defenseman Joe Graveline each had 1 goal, 2 assists. For Chisago Lakes, sophomore defenseman Jeff Sargeant had 1 goal. Goalies: St. Thomas Academy - junior Kurt Altrichter (first two periods) and sophomore Matt McNeely (third period), Chisago Lakes - sophomore Kyle Buchanan. South St. Paul (18-5-3, #2 seed) defeated Minnehaha Academy (6-19-2, #7 seed) 2-1. After a slow first period, South St. Paul carried the play in the final two periods. All the scoring came in the second period where the Packers opened up a 2-0 advantage before Minnehaha Academy responded with a goal. South St. Paul outshot the Redhawks 15-3 in the third period. The Packers outshot Minnehaha Academy 35-11. For South St. Paul, sophomore forward Jesse Poznikowich and junior forward Gabe Grundtner each had 1 goal. For Minnehaha Academy, eighth grade forward Zach Hartley had 1 goal. Goalies: South St. Paul - sophomore Adam Wilcox, Minnehaha Academy - junior Adam Lundeen. Mahtomedi (18-6-2, #3 seed) shutout St. Paul Academy (15-10-2, #6 seed) 4-0. Mahtomedi scored twice in the first period and added single goals in the second and third periods. Junior goalie Brad Wohlers of the Zephyrs logged the shutout. Mahtomedi outshot St. Paul Academy 29-24. For Mahtomedi, senior forward Brian Houdek and junior forward Brandon Zurn each had 1 goal, 1 assist and junior defenseman Jordan Dittberner had 2 assists. Goalies: Mahtomedi - Wohlers, St. Paul Academy - senior Steven Estep. Totino-Grace (17-7-3, #4 seed) defeated Spring Lake Park (16-9-1, #5 seed) 4-1 eng. Totino-Grace led 3-0 late in the third period before Spring Lake Park notched a power play goal. Totino-Grace outshot Spring Lake Park 33-28. For Totino-Grace, senior defenseman Joe Novitzki had 2 goals, 1 assist and junor defenseman Joe Hockert had 1 goal, 1 assist. For Spring Lake Park, junior forward Luke Gerding had 1 goal. Goalies: Totino-Grace - senior Tyler Olson, Spring Lake Park - junior Mike Nelson. Semifinals: St. Thomas Academy (21-4-2, #1 seed) defeated Totino-Grace (17-8-3, #4 seed) 7-3. St. Thomas Academy erupted for five goals in the first period and a 5-0 margin after one. Senior forward Kevin Sienko and sophomore forward AJ Reid of the Cadets each netted a pair of tallies in the period. St. Thomas Academy outshot Totino-Grace 37-25. For St. Thomas Academy, Reid had 2 goals, 2 assists, junior forward Christian Isackson had 4 assists, and Sienko had 2 goals. For Totino-Grace, senior forward Dan DeLisle and senior defensemen Joe Novitzki and Mike Nagel each had 1 goal. Goalies: St. Thomas Academy - junior Kurt Altrichter, Totino-Grace - senior Tyler Olson. Mahtomedi (19-6-2, #3 seed) defeated South St. Paul (18-6-3, #2 seed) 4-1 eng. Mahtomedi carried the play; but, the Zephyrs could not get on the board in the first two periods as the teams were scoreless after two. In the third period, senior forward Nick Montanari of Mahtomedi finally found the back of the net, at 7:57; and, the Zephyrs led 1-0. Mahtomedi stretched their advantage to 3-0 on tallies from freshman forward Tanner Jordan, at 13:05, and junior forward Charlie Adams, at 15:14. South St. Paul tried to create some offense by pulling their goalie with about two minutes remaining. The tactic paid off as senior defenseman Zach Palmquist of the Packers notched a goal, with the extra attacker, at 16:16; however, after the center ice faceoff, freshman defenseman Ben Marshall of Mahtomedi, fired a shot into the empty net, at 16:25, to finish the scoring. Mahtomedi outshot South St. Paul 38-22. For Mahtomedi, Montanari had 1 goal, 1 assist and senior forward Ben Holker had 2 assists. For South St. Paul, Palmquist had 1 goal. Goalies: Mahtomedi - junior Brad Wohlers, South St. Paul - sophomore Adam Wilcox. Final: Mahtomedi (20-6-2, #3 seed) defeated St. Thomas Academy (21-5-2, #1 seed) 4-1 eng. St. Thomas Academy had the better of the action in the first period; however, Mahtomedi notched two goals including a crucial tally from junior forward Brandon Zurn in the last minute of the period, at 16:24, to put the Zephyrs on top, 2-0, after one. The Cadets dominated in the second period, outshooting Mahtomedi 22-5. St. Thomas Academy cut the margin in half with a goal from junior forward Christian Isackson, at 11:45, and, had an excellent chance to tie the contest with a power play late in the period; but, senior forward Ben Holker of the Zephyrs logged a shorthanded goal, at 14:07, that gave Mahtomedi a two-goal advantage again, 3-1. The third period was more even; however, St. Thomas Academy couldn't make a dent in the lead. The Cadets entered the final minute of play on the power play and pulled their goalie to attack 6-on-4; but, Zurn tallied an empty net goal, at 16:32, to seal the verdict. St. Thomas Academy outshot Mahtomedi 49-23. For Mahtomedi, Zurn had 2 goals and sophomore defenseman Ben Marshall had 2 assists. For St. Thomas Academy, Isackson had 1 goal.
