| July 11-July 16, 2004 Team Minnesota finished with a record of 1-3-2 in the National Division at the Select 17 Hockey Festival in St. Cloud. Each team in the National Division played each team in the American Division once (two 23 minute periods). Minnesota finished tied for third with two other teams in the National Division. The Dakotas team finished first in the National Division with a 3-0-3 record while Pacific finished second with a 4-2-0 mark. In the American Division, Michigan finished with the best overall record of 5-1-0 followed by Massachusetts at 3-0-3. Team Minnesota defeated Atlantic (5-2), lost to Michigan (5-2), Massachusetts (4-1), and New England (3-1), and tied Rocky Mountain (1-1) and Central (2-2). Phil Kessel of Central was the top scorer in the Select 16 Hockey Festival last year with 14 points. This year, Kessel scored 7 points to finish second behind top scorer Jacob Cepis of Mid-American with 8 points. Two Minnesotans were selected for the 20-player roster of the Under-18 Select Team, defensemen Brian Lee and Taylor Chorney.
