Grand Forks Red River, two-time defending champ, was eliminated in the semifinals by Grand Forks Central. In the final, Grand Forks Central had defeated Grafton-Park River three times during the regular season and had beaten them, in a great game, 1-0 in three overtimes in the East Region semifinals, one week before the State Tournament.
