Quarterfinals: 03/05/2002 East Kentwood (20-6-2, Region 1) defeated Grand Ledge/Waverly (Region 2) 6-1. Detriot Catholic Central (24-3-0, Region 4) defeated Brighton (Region 3) 5-1. Clarkston (16-8-4, Region 6) defeated West Bloomfield (Region 5) 4-3 in overtime. Marquette (18-5-4, Region 8) defeated Grand Traverse Bay Reps (Region 7) 7-1. Semifinals: 03/07/2002 Clarkston (17-8-4) defeated East Kentwood (20-7-2) 4-1. East Kentwood outshot Clarkston 8-4 in the first period, however, Clarkston scored the only goal of the period, from junior forward Steve Morin on a power play at 3:14. East Kentwood tied the game, 1-1, with the first goal of the second period, but the game was decided with back-to-back goals from Clarkston in :17. Senior forward Eric Hall scored at 9:34 followed by junior forward Kyle Buzzo at 9:51. The Falcons outshot Clarkston 6-3 in the third period, but the score remained 3-1 until a late penalty on East Kentwood. Junior forward Adam Peters of the Wolves added a power play tally at 14:08 for the final goal. East Kentwood outshot Clarkston 22-16. For Clarkston, senior defensemen Ron Knoebel and Jim Lattanzi each had 2 assists. For East Kentwood, senior forward Adam Thomas had 1 goal. Goalies: Clarkston - junior Aaron Cantanese, East Kentwood - Sean Pero (first half of the game) and Sonefeld (at 9:51 of second period). Detroit Catholic Central (25-3-0) defeated Marquette (18-6-4) 5-1. Marquette scored the first goal of the game; but, after that, it was all Detroit Catholic Central. The Shamrocks led 2-1 after the first period and 4-1 after the second. Detroit Catholic Central outshot Marquette 27-22. For Detroit Catholic Central, senior forward Eric Giosa had 1 goal, 2 assists and senior forward Bryan Genrich and senior defenseman Andrew Eggert each had 1 goal, 1 assist. Final: 03/08/2003 Detroit Catholic Central (26-3-0) shutout Clarkston (17-9-4) 4-0. Detroit Catholic Central won the Division 1 championship for the fourth year in a row and the top Michigan class for the fifth year in a row. The Shamrocks won the Class A championship in 1994, 1997, and 1999. That makes Detroit Catholic Central the champs of the top Michigan Class for the seventh time of the last ten years. The first period was even and scoreless, however, the Shamrocks dominated Clarkston in the second period. Detroit Catholic Central outshot Clarkston 16-4 and put the game away with three goals. Semifinals: 03/06/2003 Davison (23-3-2) defeated Novi (14-10-5) 4-3. Davison led 2-1 after one period. Novi scored the first two goals of the second period to lead 3-2; however, Davison came back with two goals later in the second period to lead 4-3 after two. Novi outshot Davison 28-26. For Davison, forward Andrew Sweers had 1 goal, 2 assists, Curtis Christensen had 1 goal, 1 assist and forward Rocky Ybarra had 2 assists. For Novi, Robert Vulaj had 1 goal, 1 assist and John Murray had 2 assists. Goalies: Davison - Corey Hall, Novi - Trent Sisson and Dan Morrison (late in the third period). Trenton (20-2-7) defeated Muskegon Mona Shores (17-10-1) 3-2 in overtime. Forward Chris Gutenschwager of Trenton tied the game, 2-2, with his second goal on a power play late in the third period. Forward Brandon Etlinger of Trenton notched the gamewinner at 1:11 of overtime. Trenton outshot Muskegon Mona Shores 27-15. For Trenton, Gutenschwager had 2 goals. For Muskegon Mona Shores, forward Justin Abdelkader had 1 goal, 1 assist and forward Jeremy Tejchma had 2 assists. Goalies: Trenton - Ben Trosien, Muskegon Mona Shore - Joe Jaenicke. Trenton outshot Davison 19-6 in the first period and led 1-0 after one, on a goal from forward Brandon Etlinger. Etlinger added his second tally in the second period as Trenton outshot Davison 17-10. Trenton tacked on two more goals in the latter stages of the third period. Trenton outshot Davison 44-22.
