Brill was an advocate for hockey at all youth levels, including high school, as a 29-year member of Minnesota Hockeys board of directors and an executive board member of the Minnesota High School Coaches Association for 25 years. His devotion to the game he loved is celebrated annually at the elite high school hockey competition which Brill nurtured to its current state and now, fittingly, bears his name. The 28th Annual Ted Brill Great 8 High School Hockey Festival - Friday, April 3rd through Sunday, April 5th 2009 at Wakota Arena in South St. Paul, Minn. The USA Hockey sanctioned event is a cooperative effort between the Minnesota High School Hockey Coaches Association and Minnesota Hockey to provide graduating seniors a platform to showcase their skills for college and junior hockey scouts in a highly-competitive environment. What began in 1981 as the two-team Minnesota High School Maroon and Gold Series has evolved over the years into the current format in which eight teams each play three games in a tournament featuring 136 of the states top players. The eight teams represent the eight Minnesota State High School League sections and are comprised of a mixture of Class A and Class AA players from each section. Players are nominated by their own head coaches and a vote conducted by all coaches in the section determines the roster of each team. At the conclusion of the Festival, 20 players not yet committed to a Division 1 college or junior team will be selected to compete on a national scale at the Chicago Showcase High School Tournament April 14-19 in Chicago, IL. At Wakota Ice Arena, South St. Paul. Quarterfinals: 04/03/2009 Sections 1AA/1A defeated Sections 3AA/3A 7-2. Sections 2AA/2A defeated Sections 5AA/5A 9-5.
