Midway through the third period, at 8:22, sophomore forward Cole Kretzman of Edina tallied to cut the margin to 2-1. Later in the period, with the Pioneers on a power play, senior forward Nick Widing fired in a shot, at 14:08, to give Hill-Murray their two goal advantage back. Edina outshot Hill-Murray 33-29. For Hill-Murray, Westerhaus had 2 goals. Goalies: Hill-Murray - sophomore Tim Shaughnessy, Edina - junior John Ankeny. Duluth Marshall 2 St. Thomas Academy 1 1-1-0 0-1-0 St. Thomas Academy carried the play; however, Duluth Marshall scored a goal in both of the first two periods to take a 2-0 lead. The Cadets tried to comeback in the third period, outshooting the Hilltoppers 20-3; but, Duluth Marshall maintained their 2-0 edge through most of the third period behind the goaltending of senior Willie Paul. St. Thomas did not get on the board until a power play tally from junior forward Justin Crandell at 15:41; however, the Hilltoppers held on in the final minute. St. Thomas Academy outshot Duluth Marshall 40-22. For Duluth Marshall, junior forward Dane Morin and senior forward Pat Mahoney each had 1 goal.
