HUNGER MITIGATION MEASURES AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION PROGRAM UNDER CARP FUND

 

In line with the Hunger Mitigation Measures and Poverty Alleviation Program of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the region was able to get a sizeable share of budget from the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) for the implementation of livelihood projects in Community Based Forestry Management Project sites.

 

For the year, there were 13 livelihood proposals submitted to the CARP en-banc, of which three (3) were approved and implemented for the year.  The six (6) proposals are due for implementation in CY 2008 and the remaining four (4) are still subject for evaluation by en-banc committee.

 

 

There were three (3) livelihood projects implemented for the year with a total funding of P1,660,402. These are  (1.) Alley Farming With Goat Production for Sustainable  Livelihood of CBFM Beneficiaries in Nazuni Dingle, Iloilo with a funding of P848,224.00 (2.)  Intercropping of Nitrogen Fixing Tree (Akleng Parang) with Abacca for Fiber and Vegetable Production with a total funding of P 678,754  located in Barangays Mablad, Bigaa, Langkaon & Lumbuyan, Barbaza Antique  (3.) Cashew Production with Banana & Pineapple Intercrop for Sustainable Livelihood of CBFM Beneficiaries with a total funding of P133,424.00 located in So. Catmon Maglacat, Barangay Patlabawon, Antique.  A total of 47 hectares of  agroforestry was established located in Barangay Nazuni Dingle  (5 has.) contracted by Nazuni ISF Farmers Association (NISFFAI) Development  Cooperative (NDC) represented by Agustin P. Calanao; 25 hectares Abacca Plantation contracted  by Malalubi Upland Farmers association, Inc. represented by Romeo Ogatis located in Barangays Mablad, Bigaa, Langkaon, & Lumbuyan, barbaza, Antique; and 20 hectare Banana Plantation contracted by Patnongon Integrated Social Forestry Farmers Association, Inc (PISFUFAI) represented by Rodrigo Mondejar located in So. Catmon Maglacat, Barangay Patlabawon, Patnongon, Antique.
