| TAMBOV, MY FORMER HOME SWEET HOME... This pretencious symbol belongs to my native city of Tambov, located in Central Russia, where, thanks to my mom I was born on May 17, 1976 at 10.35 PM. The center of the Province of Tmbov, the city was founded on April 17, 1636 as a fortress against the Tartars on the bank of the river Zna. The three beees are ready to defend their bee-hive below. Personally I like it. Now whenever I come there to see my relatives, I like it less and less. it's no longer a city of my childhood and early youth. There's nothing new, nothing good. the local mediocrity reigns supreme while my friends are always out of business. It's all pretty sad. the greatest benefit of tambov's location is that it's not far from Moscow, only 476km, an overnight trip by train. At the first look it seems to be a pretty green provincial city. It's great to come to stay there for a month or two, but to live here - Lord, prevent me! it's a hell of difference! I know, it sounds unpatriotic, but I'm a cosmopolitan person. The most well-known symbol of the Province of Tambov is the Tambov Wolf (left). Some people consider this figure positive, some not. But a well-known Russian proverb "IT'S THE TAMBOV WOLF WHO IS YOUR FRIEND!" actually means that you're such a monstrous person that no one would like to deal with you! Some of the Tambov sitizens consider the ancestry of Tambov Wolf going back to the Ancient Roman Wolf! However, I don't consider this idiom as a major offense. For me it's apart of Russia anyway and also a part of my homeland. I'm a born RUSSIAN and I'm proud of it. Our area was a long-time-ago famous for its wolves who lived in big thick woods. So by birth I REMAIN A TAMBOV WOLF FOREVER. I am a peaceful person, but don't try to kick me - I will respond! |

| the apartment where my parents still live is located next to this beautiful building. On these photos dating from the beginning of the twentieth century you can see it still a House of Nobility, now it's a local drama theatre. The three-floor apartment building was added later in the 1940s and now stands next to it (below). This building used to be on eof my most favorite.Since we moved into the apartment back in 1983, the greatest enertainment for me and my friends was climbing the theatre roof and riding hanging on a rope over the pit near it. Now a lot of things had changed. After the renovation the biulding looks completely different, a lot of decorative stuff was removed including the symbols of the cities of Tambov Province on the roof, which you still can see on these old postcards. I just wonder sometimes where it all has gone... | |||||||||
