Fishscribes
Stories from and about fishing in the old days, the great fishermen and storytellers.
This site is dedicated to those famous fishing writers, those 'fish scribes' of old.  Names like Matt Ahern,  Frank Keating, Fred Guardineer, Bob Huttemeyer, and so forth. Have a favorite story of memory of a great fishing writer?
This is the place to share those old treasured memories. The place that remembers the times and ways of many great fishermen, their stories and their lives.
Where those who remember can for a short while, go back to a simpler place and time. The times of the old fishing days, and the men who told the stories.
For me, one of the most consistently entertaining and educating was the old-time fishing scribe Matt Ahern, writing in The Fisherman magazine. I would wait all week for Thursday, when I could pick up my copy of The Fisherman on the way to work.
Week by week, the compiled stories of Matt was an important building block for many avid fishermen, adding to their own journey a sense of something

older, wiser and always on your side.
Two views from a life- these photos show Matt Ahern as a young kid working the summer party boats (left) to seasoned veteran, one who's still happy just to fish from a small skiff and bring home a few flounders.
Many of Matt's early experiences as a mate aboard Sheepshead Bay's old Rose R II made for many of his best fishing tales.
