Onyx Tower
Onyx Tower
A blinding white light forces you to avert your eyes, while an immense
shockwave thrusts you back. You fall to your knees, unable
to fight the torrent of energy. Then, as suddenly as it began, it stops.
Your ears are still ringing as you survey the room. There is no sign
of either Darwin or Sean. You help Shila up, on edge in case something
happens.
'They're gone...' Shila says, so softly that you almost don't hear her.
'The Onyx?' you ask.
Shila shakes her head. 'It's gone... No!' She grabs your arm, pulling
you down the stairwell. 'Hurry!' she says to you. You don't know
why you're moving so fast, but if Shila's worried, so are you.
Within moments, you are on the ground floor of the Tower, when
you feel something pulling at your mind.
What are you doing? a voice in your mind asks. It seems a
simple question - you're escaping the Onyx.
But what if Sean was right? The Onyx is coming anyway, why
fight it? Such power... you shut the thoughts out of your
mind as you exit the tower. Shila turns and places
the lever back in the position that closes the gates, which swing
shut a moment later.
You have not defeated me... The voice recedes as the gates
slowly close. A moment later, you shiver in revulsion - the Onyx had
just tried to tempt you.
Shila turns to you. 'That was close... I felt it.'
'I did too...' you say. 'What happened?'
Shila frowns. 'Darwin destroyed himself, and his brother. The Onyx
had no more hosts. It was unable to take us directly because
it had expended all of its power in controlling Sean and trying
to control Darwin. If we had stayed there any longer though....' she
shivers.
'It's over.' you say, looking at the tower.
Shila follows your gaze and nods. 'Yes, it's over. Until the next
poor fool stumbles along these gates and tries to open them.' with
that, she walks over to the lever and, with a quick motion of her
hands, breaks the handle off. 'There. Now it's over.'
- You have won -
