Onyx Tower
You sheathe your sword as the possessed surround you, standing
there idly. The first that had emerged looks at you grimly.
'Darwin! How dare you approach this place?' he says, glaring
at the three of you.
'I am here to see my brother.' Darwin says cooly.
The leader nods. 'We anticipated such. You have come to your
senses?'
'I have.' Darwin says. 'And I have brought two supplicants.'
Their leader smiles. 'Excellent! Follow me.' The rest of the fanatics
vanish as quickly as they appeared, and you follow the leader into
the tower.
The coolness of the tower surrounds you as you look over toward Darwin.
The meaning of his last words are slowly becoming clear to you...
either he's lying to gain entrance, or he is joining the Onyx and bringing
you and Shila with him.
A shiver comes over you as the leader brings you to the center of the
room. He says something incoherent and your vision blurs, the room
around you vanishing and being replaced with another. This
room features a large altar at one end, obscured by the form of
a man who, from behind, appears just like Darwin.
Sean Tanner. You know it the instant you lay eyes on the man. He
turns around, looking toward the leader. 'Leave me now.' Without
another word, the leader vanishes. 'I am told,' Sean says, 'that
you have decided to join us at last.'
Darwin steps forward toward Sean. 'You have been somewhat
misinformed. I am here to stop you.'
Sean nods agreeably. 'Yes, I thought that you would not be so
easily swayed. Still, that you have come here is a good sign.'
'I come here to do what I should have long ago! To stop you from
fulfilling your mad quest!'
'I have already fulfilled my 'mad' quest, as you call it. You don't
understand, do you? For all my life, I have searched in vain for
something meaningful - something to give my life purpose! I could
not lapse into magic as you had. It was not enough. Until I came
here. The Onyx called me, you realize. Not just at the end of my
quest, but all my life. It seeks one such as myself, so that it may
be made manifest!'
'It called you to use you!' Darwin yells back. 'I have seen the true
nature of the Onyx, and it wants only to feed on this world. It is
not too late for you Sean!'
Sean blinks, looking confused. 'But... the Onyx has made me
stronger... given me followers...'
'The Onyx has taken away your will, your destiny, your future.
Renounce it. Turn away, and it need not come to violence.'
Sean looks suddenly away, closing his eyes. He takes a step
forward, then stops. His eyes snap open, fury burning in them.
'You lie!' he says. 'I will prove it to you!' He turns toward Shila.
'She will become one of mine, and she will tell you!'
Attack Sean
Push Shila out of the way
