Obern Temple
Emerging into the lobby, you see Shila standing alone and looking out
one of the many windows. She is holding a small crystal in one
hand. Seeing you, she smiles slightly.
'How's Darwin?' she asks quietly.
You shake your head. 'Beth- the woman that he was searching for-
is here... she's in a coma.'
Shila nods, not answering you. She just continues to look out the
window.
'What's that?' you ask, gesturing toward the crystal that Shila is
holding idly.
Shila looks down at it, as though surprised. 'Oh... this was given
to me by Elder Priest John. It is, according to him, 'anathema to
the Onyx'. I'm some sort of hero, apparently.' she smiles sadly,
looking toward the ground.
You get the idea that something's bothering Shila, but before you can
ask what, Darwin reemerges from the corridor. Looking toward the
two of you, he announces 'Marie has told me that accomodations
have been prepared for us. In the morning, I will be departing for the
Onyx tower. You do not have to come along... you have done
so much for me already by taking me here, I could not ask
anything else from you.'
'You need not ask, Darwin. I am as opposed to this force as you are.
I will come with you.' you say. Shila nods in agreement as Darwin
walks toward another corridor and presumably to his room.
Shila turns her attention back to the outdoors, ignoring you
completely. After a few moments of vainly trying to think of something
to say, you move down the corridor that Darwin followed, having
decided to go to bed yourself.
The next morning...
