Obern Temple
Obern Temple
You follow Darwin and Marie as they leave the main corridor of the
temple, curious to hear exactly what they're discussing. Darwin gives
you a cursory glance and then returns his attention back to the
Elder Cleric.
'There are no stories of anyone like you, you realize.' Marie had
already begun talking to Darwin. 'Nobody is supposed to be able
to withstand the will of the Onyx. That you can not only resist its
will, but actually control its power, is a good sign for us all.'
Darwin shakes his head. 'It is not. I would not wish another being
on earth to suffer this... I have my will, but I must constantly vie for it.
I do not have a moment's peace - I never sleep, for fear that the Onyx
will ensure that I never awake.'
'What will you do, once you have left here?' Marie asks cautiously.
It is apparent that, despite her earlier statments, she still holds some
reservations about Darwin.
He doesn't seem to notice. 'I will journey to the Onyx tower, and once
there, I will confront my brother.' Darwin pauses, and then speaks
once more, anticipating Marie's next question. 'Yes, I will destroy
him if necessary. And then myself - there must be none who
carry the Onyx remaining on this earth.'
To this, the Elder Cleric has no reply. The three of you walk down
the corridor for some time, until suddenly Marie stops near a nondescript
door. Turning to the two of you, she hesitates. 'Some time ago,
we discovered a woman who was possessed of the Onyx in
the vicinity of that wretched tower. She seemed to be trying to fight
it, but she could not. Our clerics attempted to aid her, but could not
wage the war that she was fighting. She was lead here, where
I, and some of this temple's most powerful and talented clerics, drove
the Onyx from her soul. She has been comatose ever since.'
With that, Marie opens the door.
Darwin stands in shock as he sees the woman laying still on the bed.
'Beth...' he whispers, moving forward into the room. 'Oh, Beth! What
has happened to you?' Kneeling at the bed's side, Darwin takes
the nearest of her hands in his own.
Marie turns to you. 'I was afraid of this... the moment he said he was
searching for one taken by the Onyx, I knew.' with that, the Elder
cleric leaves the room. Taking one last look at the woman sleeping
and the man weeping over her nearly motionless body, you
do the same.
In the temple lobby...
