The High Barrier
The High Barrier
'I don't like this....' Shila says, echoing your thoughts. Your torch
gutters and flickers, moved by some wind that has no business
being this far underground. You have been travelling for at least
half an hour now, ever since morning, and are not sure if you are still on the path that
you had originally chosen. Suddenly, the path widens, and you are
forced to shield your eyes as you step into an area of light. The source
of the light seems to be the walls themselves, shedding a bright
greenish phosphorescent glow. Your path continues as a bridge with
no siderails to hold on to, spanning a dark pit. You can discern gurgling
noises from below.
'Spencer, my bracelet.... Look!' Shila is pointing enthusiastically
toward her bracelet, which is glowing a faint gold. 'It feels cold too...'
You move forward slowly, feeling more and more nervous about this
area. Looking down, you can see some of the
phosporescence of the wall blocked by some large object. You can't
see it clearly, but you can tell that it is not moving. It does, however,
seem to be the source of the gurgling. Motioning for silence
from Shila, you carefully cross the bridge. You get the impression
that the thing down below is watching you every moment.
You breathe a sigh of relief when you finally exit that room, and are
back in the cavern again.
After what seems like hours of walking...
