| Technical Writing Sample: Safety Page for American Superconductor Below is a typical example of technical writing from Dennis J. O'Boyle. This particular page involves safety in a small (28 page) user's manual. A technical writer since 1973 when he wrote logs, police reports and other material while serving as a Crisis Counselor at St. Charles Boys Home, Dennis was fascinated by the simplicity of automotive repair manuals. "Secure bolt 'A' with nut 'B'," he says, "that is pure and simple. Who writes these things?" A letter to the Chiltons Manual folks never brought a response. One day, Joseph D. Paterick, a technical writer and former co-worker from the boys home, gave Dennis a call from TECHCOM, where they needed another technical writer. Within three minutes of the interview, TECHCOM co-owner Jim Casper hired Dennis on the spot, paving the way for future technical communications success. |
