| Around the Mustang garage we appreciate vehicles of all makes and models. This 68' GMC has been owned by me since 1974 and has traveled over 345,000 miles. It has visited 30 states, plus has spent several years in both Germany and Italy | ||||||||||||||||||||

| This 68' GMC was born as a 1500 series short wide bed (SWB). It is an original "Custom" model two wheel drive 307ci V8 model with a standard 3 speed transmission. It was reasonably optioned as it had chrome moldings, power steering, power brakes, and an AM radio. Over time the 307ci was replaced with a 350ci 4 barrel truck engine. Currently the 350 has 66' 327ci "camel hump" heads, alum-a-coat headers with 2 1/4' dual exhaust, roller rockers, an RV cam, dual plane aluminium intake, and a Holley spread bore carburator. This combination, when coupled to the 3:07 rear axle, allows her to have a maximum speed of 105MPH and get 17mpg when traveling at 65mph. Needless to say, it has no problem trailering Mustangs around. While it was originally painted turquoise and white 2 tone, it has since been stripped to metal and repainted Porshe Guardsman Red with a black interior. It also has full factory instrumentation including a 5 grand factory tach plus vacuum, amp, oil, and water temperature gauges. Other additions include an original tilt steering column (with newer small diameter steering wheel), cruise control, dual mirrors, upper and lower body side moldings (lower is 69'-72' style), and a sliding glass rear window. It has not always had such an easy life. She did the first 6 years of her life as a farm truck and had been repainted before I bought her. When I discovered that her engine was tired, I rebuilt her as a hot rod. High compression V8(12.5 to 1), Torker intake, headers, Holley carb, Muncy 4 speed, 3:56 rearend ration, and ultra wide rear tires made her a formidable opponent. In the last few years I have reversed many of the changes to give her a more stock appearance and make her easier to drive. |
