Generation No. 4
(8) BRIANT (BRYAN)4 ADAMS (Henry3, Jesse2, Henry1) was born Abt. 1815 in Smith Co. TN and died Bef. 1870 in Ballard County, KY. He married JANE [nee?] about 1855 in Ballard, KY. Jane was born about 1829 in KY. and died after 1880.
Notes for BRIANT (BRYAN) ADAMS: On 1850C = "B" age 34, born in TN, no profession, in the household of "H" and "C" ADAMS a long with two younger brothers. There were three nearly adjacent ADAMS households (Ballard Co. families #84 & 86-88). He headed his own household on the 1860C (Briant ADAMS, A44, TN, Shoemaker, wife = Jane, Jesse A4, CHARITY R A2 and Margaret AA10) adjacent to Henry.
There was a 1961 LDS proxy ceremony for Margaret, "tying" her to Briant & Jane but Margaret would have been either the one year old "M. A." in the household of Henry Jr. or the age 10-12 "M" in household of S.H. and "A.M.". Note she was listed after their own children rather than in age order and Briant was not yet married in 1850. Proxy = many ADAMS lines / not by rel.
Briant died before 1870 when the children were enumerated with his widow. Possibly he died in the Civil War? A Bryson Adams who drowned in the Mississippi River (1860 Mortality Schedule) was born in KY and appeared separately on Ballard County tax records, so not our linage. Tax records for Briant begin with 1849 and continue through at least 1862 when records get vague and hard to track for the Civil War decade.
Sale of their 25 acres of land by JANE ADAMS, described by metes & bounds locatable only by "being near the waters of Obion Creek" adjacent to land owned by NANCY HAMLON, JOHN CARTER and A.J. STEPHENS.
Notes for JANE [nee?]: She was listed on census as Bryand ADAMS' wife.
