(2). JESSE ADAMS (Henry1) was born in 1753 in Bute County, NC. and died in 1835 in Humphries County, Tennessee. He married UNICY Bef. 1782. Unicy was born in Bute County, NC.
Notes for JESSE ADAMS: It is speculated that Henry's father might be Henry or Bryant of Johnson County, NC. but information from GenForum (Adams #6122) provides a firm match with siblings Henry, Gillum and Young; all sons of Jesse and Unicy Adams. I had penciled in GREEN ADAMS who may or may not be the same as Willey / Millie.
Jesse's family moved to Smith County, TN. in 1812. On the 1820 census Jesse and Unicy born before 1775, two sons born 1794-1804, one son born 1802-04, one son and one daughter born 1804-1810. Henry was in a separate household (intervening households = Solomon, Allen & Elijah). A NC. Cousins query identifies Pitt or Anson Co. NC - Solomon 1771, John 1791, Aaron 1793, Elijah and Levi.
There were ten (10) ADAMS households in Smith County on the 1820 census; just two matching known Jesse Adams family names with NC Cousins cluster on both sides of Henry. From the history of Macon County there were nineteen (19) Adams households while Macon County was still in Smith County, those in SW from NC, the ones around Willette from VA; others from VA, SC & NC.
Jesse later moved to the part of Humphries County from which Benton was taken. Information indicated some of the younger Adams moved to Gibson County before 1850. We found Henry and Gillam in Ballard County, KY. in 1849.
BIRTH: The names and birth dates of the children are taken from a family record wrote by Gillum Adams June 11, 1822, State of Tennessee, Humphries County. "Dear brothers and sisters. When this you see, remember me." It was in the Jesse Adams Revolution pension file. The microfilm was in terrible shape and some entries were very difficult to read, particularly birth dates for UNICY and WILLEY. The rest of the pages in the file were in worse shape than the family record page. Penmanship was excellent and the original at the National Archives may be much clearer. Jesse Sr. date of birth was not included on the pages but his age was likely on one of the illegible pages. Using birth year provided by Betty Allison.
Children of JESSE ADAMS and UNICY are:
i. NANCY ADAMS, b. November 20, 1782
ii. PATSEY ADAMS, b. April 04, 1785. Notes for Patsey: Patsey added per 1822 family record.
iii. HENRY ADAMS, b. April 14, 1786, NC. d. Aft. 1860, Ballard, KY.
iv. ALSEY ADAMS, b. July 31, 1788, NC.
v. ELIZZA ADAMS, b. January 01, 1791, NC.
vi. UNICY ADAMS, b. February 03, 1793, NC. Notes for Unicy Adams: Birth dates for Unicy & Willey were extremely difficult to read on the microfilm due to spots and damage. Month could be June or July, year could be anywhere from 1792-1795.
vii. MILLEY ADAMS, b. March 23, 1795, NC. Notes for Milley Adams: Listed as Willey on GenForum but on Gillum's 1822 sibling list looks more like an "M" - which also agrees with the household composition on the census. Date of birth on the 1822 family record was nearly illegible. I read it as March 23, 1795, month, day is iffy, year could be 1795 or 1796. It's also possible this could be "GREEN ADAMS" who was age 55 and residing in Benton County, TN. on the 1850 census.
viii. TABITHA ADAMS, b. October 16, 1797, NC.
ix. JESSE ADAMS JR., b. April 03, 1802, NC. Notes for Jesse Adams Jr.: One of two sons born 1794/1804 on 1820 census. Born in April 1802 per 1822 family record, day could be 3, 5, or 30. This might be the "GREEN" Adams on the Benton County census? not e Bryant of NC (Jesse's brother) had a son named Green - check ages on census.....
x. GILLUM ADAMS, b. June 14, 1804, NC. d. Aft. 1850, KY [?]
xi. MOURNING ADAMS, b. October 02, 1806, NC. d. 1893 Gibson County, TN. Married JESSE HAMMONDS, 1823, Smith, County, TN. d. 1852, Gibson County, TN.
Notes for Mourning Adams: Mourning was the great, great grandmother of BETTY ALLISON (GenForum). She went with her parents to Smith County, TN. where she married JESSE HAMMONDS. They moved to the part of Humphries County, TN. from which Benton County was taken. Some of her siblings also moved there. Later she, her husband and her mother (residing with them) moved to Gibson County, TN. where her husband died in 1852. She remained in Gibson County until her death in 1893.
xii. YOUNG ADAMS, b. April 25, 1809, NC.
