Descendants of Roy ADAMS

Generation No. 1

26.  ROY7 ADAMS  (JOHN THOMAS6, JESSE THOMAS5, BRIANT (BRYAN)4, HENRY3, JESSE2, HENRY1) was born March 28, 1903 in Doniphan, Ripley Co, MO, and died October 18, 1968 in Doniphan, Ripley Co, MO.  He married (1) HAZEL SPIRES Bef. 1930 in ,MO.    He married (2) ROBERTA "BILLIE" MCCULLEY August 10, 1942 in ,MO.  She died in Doniphan, Ripley, MO.

Notes for ROY ADAMS:  Roy was an avid hunter with 2 or 3 freezers always well stocked with wild game.  He was custodian of the Handlin Clubhouse and served as a guide for both hunting and fishing. Although in his 40s he served briefly in the Army during WW II as a rifle instructor. By vocation he was a painter. .Virgil often told of escapades he and Roy got into while growing up and his adult life could also be characterized as "rough", yet he was always a gentleman around the family, particularly when children were present (Aunt Billie always feared he would "slip").  After his first marriage broke up, Hazel remained on close terms with her "in-laws".  All three of their children died tragic deaths as young adults (spinal meningitis during boot camp, murder and a freak accident 2 year s after Roy's death).

..Funeral services were in St. Benedict Church at Doniphan (Aunt Billie was Catholic; no mention of 1st marriage in obituary; Roy Jr. mentioned plus 4 GC/3 GGC - 1 GC would have been Glenna's daughter and 3 identified by Roy Jr's obituary; details of GGC not known)

Notes for HAZEL SPIRES: ! They were divorced before WWII.  She and the children went to the Kansas City [MO/KN] area.  She stayed in touch with some of the ADAMS "ex-in-laws" and was still living [Housington, KS] in 1970 when Roy Jr. died.  Her second husband was Otis GOSS. Her parents were Mr. & Mrs. Harve SPIRES.

..Per SS Death Index CD, Otis was b1/9/1904 and d/Dec 1977 in Housington, KS (Railroad SSN) .  There was a Hazel Goss b/7/13/1907 (SSAN issued in KS) who d/Mar/1995 in Neodesha, KS--possibly her or she may still be living.

Children of ROY ADAMS and HAZEL SPIRES are:

2.                i.       GLENNA MAE8 ADAMS, d. March 21, 1948, Kansas City area, MO.

ii.       EDWARD F. "BUDDY" ADAMS, b. March 10, 1926, Doniphan, Ripley, MO; d. March 01, 1944, Farragut, ID.

Notes for EDWARD F. "BUDDY" ADAMS: ! Ed was stricken with spinal meningitis [epidemic hit naval boot camp] on 23 Dec 1943.  He improved but soon after being taken off the critical list, he suffered a relapse and died less than three weeks before his 18th birthday.

More About EDWARD F. "BUDDY" ADAMS: Burial: March 08, 1944, Hoisington Cemetery, Hoisington, Kansas.

3.              iii.    JR. ROY ADAMS, b. June 16, 1930, ,Ripley, MO; d. September 09, 1970, NW of El Dorado, KS.

Generation No. 2

2.  GLENNA MAE8 ADAMS (ROY7, JOHN THOMAS6, JESSE THOMAS5, BRIANT (BRYAN)4, HENRY3, JESSE2, HENRY1) died March 21, 1948 in Kansas City area, MO.  She married MILTON GALLIER Abt. 1944 in Baltimore, MD.

Notes for GLENNA MAE ADAMS:  Glenna Mae was murdered.  As I recall hearing, her marriage had broken up and she returned to live with her mother.  She apparently dated a fellow associated with organized crime in the greater KC area.  Around that time there were quite a few unsolved power struggle "hits" and she must have learned too much about one of them for she came home from a date crying and told her mother "They're going to get me, because I know too much".  She was shot through the bedroom window of her mother's house and so far as I know the assailant was not apprehended. ..undated clipping re her marriage.  Husband was in the Merchant Marines. She was married before Buddy died.

Child of GLENNA ADAMS and MILTON GALLIER is:

                   i.       JUDY. MAE9 GALLIER, b. Abt. 1945, Baltimore, MD.

Notes for JUDY. MAE GALLIER: !..age on pictures she sent to Grandma ADAMS 1951-55

3.  JR. ROY8 ADAMS (ROY7, JOHN THOMAS6, JESSE THOMAS5, BRIANT (BRYAN)4, HENRY3, JESSE2, HENRY1) was born June 16, 1930 in ,Ripley, MO, and died September 09, 1970 in NW of El Dorado, KS.  He married JACKIE VAN KIRK December 18, 1967 in Wichita, KS.

Notes for JR. ROY ADAMS: !..Roy Jr. was fatally injured when a valve blew out on a cementing job he was working on, the last of a series of tragedies which took the lives of all of Roy's children.  Jr. served in the Seabees & Navy for 16 years and had two tours of duty in Viet Nam.

..His sons and daughter were still at home when he died so the GGC mentioned in Roy Sr's obituary must be c/o Glena's daughter. Roy Jr had a stepdaughter listed as "Mrs. Alan Watkins " - widow Jackie nee VanKIRK's first marriage was to a BONHAM.

Children of ROY ADAMS and JACKIE VAN KIRK are:

                   i.       RONALD9 ADAMS, b. Aft. 1967, ,KS.

ii.       RANDY ADAMS, b. Aft. 1967, ,KS.

iii.       BRENDA ADAMS, b. Aft. 1967, ,KS.
