16.  WILLIAM "BILL"⁶ ADAMS  (JESSE THOMAS⁵, BRIANT (BRYAN)⁴, HENRY³, JESSE², HENRY¹) was born April 05, 1883 in Ballard or Marion Co, KY, and died April 04, 1976 in Hot Springs, Ark.  He married MARY LUCRETIA CATES March 02, 1902 in Poyner, Ripley Co, MO.  She was born March 28, 1884 in ,Oregon, MO, and died November 28, 1967 in Hot Springs, Ark.  

Notes for WILLIAM "BILL" ADAMS:  Uncle Bill's obituary gave his place of birth as Marion Co, KY but so far as I know his parents were still in Ballard County until they came to MO.  1900C of parents (Cur.River Twp, Ripley Co , MO) lists "Willie", born Apr 1883 in KY. Farmed in Ripley County most of his life.  Moved to Hot Springs, Ark in mid 1950s.  Aunt Crease died there in 1967 and Uncle Bill in 1976 (Ouachita Memorial Hospital) but both are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery of St. Louis, MO where sons Harley and Jesse were buried.

He played baseball for the Doniphan team and by all accounts was as an outstanding player. I recall Uncle Bill as "quite a talker" but on the serious side (Ponder was more of a "punster" and Bill sometimes had difficulty maintaining his dignity amidst jibes of Ponder, Virgil, Nilaetal). There were 19 GC/ 21 GGC by 1967 and 18 GC/ 30 GGC when he died.

!..Source=obituary.  Death date="Sunday"; his mother died the following Tuesday [according to Bill's obit. she died Nov. 28, 1967]. Both taken to St Louis for burial at Oak Grove Cemetery (where Harley had been buried in 1937). Jesse ill several years. Died at his home on Rt. 1 (Doniphan).  Lived in Ripley Co his entire life except when employed in St. Louis. He was a retired sheet metal worker.  Wife not mentioned; children Billy of Poplar Bluff and Robert of St. Louis.  By 1967 there were 3 grandchildren.

! ..Julia Adams recalled that Hazel "changed her name" because she didn't care for the name Nora.  Her husband's surname was IVANCICH; source=Uncle Bill's obituary. Lois LABITZKE thought his first name was Ben. ..They had two sons, Jon & Jimmy.

..Birth and death dates from Social Security Death Records CD (SSN490-40-3565 which agrees with age on census and her residence in 1976.  Relatively rare surname so fairly certain it relates to her.

!..information as recalled by Julia ADAMS [also letter from widow & obit.] married about a week after VC/Julia; adopted Cookie, then had Judy; about 3 months later Harley got rare disease [of blood or bone]; died @ St. Louis Co. Hsp. Harley was the first of the children to die and parents/sibling later brought to St Louis to be buried at Oak Grove Cemetery with him. Lois later married Ralph LABITZKE & they had a son. Ralph died [1950s?];

Lois & Judy now @ 987 Shirley Dr, Picayune, MS 39466.

Harley & his cousin, V.C. ADAMS, were very close buddies.  Both went to St Louis to work a t or near the same time. Dad often recalled Harley's last illness - how he wasted away and no thing could be done for him. Ironically, V.C. died of a similar disease nearly four decades later.
