Abbe May & the Rockin' Pneumonia
Peregrine
Nic Dalton & his Gloomchasers

Cold nights in the city; brings back memories. At first I dreaded the idea of going out on a school night. Gonna have a tough time staying awake the next day. Buy boy, am I glad I want. For one, the music was fantastic! Two, less crowd, less people generally, only the more dedicated punters, and easy to find parking. Gold!

First support Nic Dalton and his Gloomchasers. It took me a while to come around to their sound. By three or four songs in, I began to really dig their country-esque pop tunes of outer-suburban harmony. Cute twee country pop. I may have even brought some of their music if they weren't only hocking vinyl.

Peregrine was second. Nothing horribly mind blowing. I kinda just tuned out a bit while they played their mildly bluesy set.

Abbe May & the Rockin' Pneumonia. Great name. Coming all the way from Perth after picking up a few WAMI awards. Didn't quite sell out the room on this cold school night. Far as I'm aware first night in Sydney. At the time I thought there were a lot of non-album tunes. Upon reflection, I just hadn't gotten the new album in my head yet before rocking up. Some extended versions of songs: Sidesteppin', Carolina, Jesus Doing the Eagle Rock. 25-55.

Brash, loud, confident stage presence, soul wrenching voice to leave you gobsmacked. There's no doubt in my mind she's headed for bigger things, bigger venues, bigger crowds than tonight. A brilliant new star in the night's sky.
