Inga Liljestrom

Up the stairwell with the nasty smell, up all the way to level 5, follow the twists and turns and into room 505. Down the back of the room there is tea and cake. Brilliant!

The very last show before Inga's European tour. Probably. Good enough reason to front up. Set up in one corner of the room, to her left a violist and a drummer, to her right a guy on electric guitar and another on the double bass. Inga looking so beautiful sitting up front, that for the first time ever, I wished I had a camera at a gig. Did notice earlier some guy wandering around with a chunky video camera. Wish they were recording these spectacular performances. Don't know if it is just this show or if this venue always does this, but Inga got to play a massive set, almost two hours long with a brief intermission. The quiet songs were enchanting, the louder songs rocked out with the guitar and drums flexing their muscles. New songs, Nick Cave covers, old classics. I was in heaven.

And fantastic to see, this cold, soulless city of Sydney, a town that has welcomed many a quality act with small, unenthusiastic crowds, to actually have people turn up in force on a school night to sell out this room. To think, if I wasn't such a music geek that always turns up early to support the supports, I could have missed what may well be the show of the year!
