A more interesting line up of supports, the first, Sui Zhen, featuring as lead girl the singer that's been on stage singing with Bluebottle Kiss. Interesting voice, interesting sound. interesting dinosaur pin. A band to look out for in future.
The Seabellies has too many instruments. Which is always a good thing in my books. Late in the set, everybody has a go at the drums! There can never be too much drums. Up on stage there was a sampler/sequencer, guitars, drums, violin, there was an accordion that never got used. I'm sure there was a whole lot more that I had since forgotten. Xylophone, maybe. Some fascinating ideas were being tried on stage. I'd say letting the girl lead is always a good idea. More electronic bleeps and squleches, good. Changing instruments mid song, perhaps not so good. Another band I want to see more of.
Bluebottle Kiss, tonight don't need to prompt the audience to stand up and gather 'round. Not that there's a whole lot more punters tonight. A crying shame. Kicking off with the Dream Audit, tonight's set is more rocking. Again, Jamie doesn't believe in Darren Hanlon style light hearted between song banter. It's at least three songs in before we get a murmured "thank you". Of course, you don't come to a Bluebottle Kiss show for the laughs. You come to see a top notch local band rock out, and on that, they deliver. There's plenty of older tunes that gets the crowd cheering.
