First time rocking up to the Factory, the place is a lot nicer and fancier than the name had me imagining. Sydney traffic conspired against me catching the first support. Laura Jean was on the big stage flanked by a violinist and another on bells percussion and spare guitar. I made the same criticism before and it still applies tonight. Yes it's pretty, but it's not really distinctive. Pleasant enough, nice, but I can't say I noticed anything special. May work better in a smaller, more intimate setting.
The last time I saw New Buffalo was a quite disorderly affair at the inaugural (and sadly thus far only) Cockatoo Island Festival. With a new album of pretty piano led tunes to push, this is quite a different show. Sally on grand piano, plus two extras on assorted keys, b-v's, percussion, effects, toy accordion, etc. Quite pretty, but I do miss the old, sampler driven cut'n paste constructed styles. Still, good on her for daring to change and progress her sound. Perfect, lovely, romantic sounds the couples in the audience no doubt appreciate.
