Ah, yes. Exactly my kind of gig. Support act CBD Dub Project is a three piece instrumental dub act. Drums, bass, and an assortment of blown instruments. This is the hard yards, playing out to empty rooms. I applaud anyone that gets up the courage to get on stage and do their thing. But I can't deny, I may have been applauding just out of pity as opposed to any actual musical merit. It's tough playing music in this soulless city.
Budspells didn't have much more of a crowd supporting, but lead man MC Kye brought charisma and energy to the stage, backed up by a drummer and a man on laptop computer. I'm glad I rock up to shows like these and see them before they sell out bigger venues. Tonight was far from a sellout, there were barely two dozen patrons, but I'm sure Budspells are headed for greater things, with their unique blend of dub, hip-hop, and towards the end some dnb riddims that got me dancing on the dancefloor.
