The final Candle Concert for Sydney. It's enough to bring a tear to the eye. Third such wonderful event in four years.
To be totally honest, some of the bands don't really do anything for me. They are pleasant and nice, but not really special and memorable. Mid-State Orange played largely solo pop music. Small Knives played quieter pop music with a bigger band. Rob Clarkson played pop songs with a funny, cheeky slant. Anthony Atkinson & The Running Mates played pop with a bit of a rocking beat that got some in the crowd dancing. The Girls From The Clouds was a nice surprise. Some cringe worthy lyrics about sunshine and love backed by some solid powerpop. The Lucksmiths played nice and wordy pop music. Darren & Bree played pop with some interesting twists, at one point breaking into a charming little dance on stage. Definitely the highlight of the night. Everybody played fairly short sets, as was to be expected. So can't really say much more about them individually. At the end of it all, together, the Candle Concert was fantastic fun.
The show finished off with a bloody hilarious Candle All Stars rendition of "we are the world". Somebody else in the crowd said it, but it applied to me too: "I was smiling so much my jaw hurts!"
