So I was dragged along to see Spank Rock and Diplo at the Metro the other night. Don't know what to make of it. I have never been big on hip hop, even if they do fuck it up some and seem to be approaching it from a different place to everyone else. No, what am I saying? The support djs were nothing too special, Diplo came on, played some Kraftwerk, and that'll always win me over. Then proceeded to roll out with that hybrid hip hop crunk to baile funk to whatever. All in sync to the projections on stage. Fancy, technically brain aching. How'd they do that? How much was pre-arranged? The place was almost full, the hip kids bounced, but I personally wasn't feeling for it much. No doubt Diplo rocked it. What can I say? I can be hard to please sometimes. Too much commercial hip hop and not enough rough beats and cut up madness. I mean, there WAS some awesome cut up business. I was just at a weird head space that night.
Spank Rock was missing members and was just doing more of the same, mixing up shit while a mc chimed in now and then.
Left early for public transport. Eh, it was ok.
