What's the point of comfortable private transport if just finding a parking spot can be such a massive pain?
First time rocking upstairs to Spectrum, the place was a whole lot smaller than I was expecting.
Missed the first support, only managed to catch the second band the Inches doing a hell of a lot of soundcheck work. And some of it sounded more interesting than their actual set. No, that's not true. It reminded me a bit of Dappled Cities Fly. Hip looking lads making music that other hip looking people would probably dig, but doesn't do much for me.
Before the headlining band got on stage, I bumped into lead singer Sianna and managed to make a fool of myself by saying something stupid. Everytime I meet and say something to a musician I admire, that "something" always turns out to be "something stupid". On the one hand, "Wow, Sianna spoke to me!". On the other hand "Hey, Sianna just practically told me to piss off, what a bitch!" Nar, ultimately I'm not too upset. But I've really got to think things through more clearly before approaching another musician I admire.
My second time seeing Love Outside Andromeda play, doing a brief round of shows a month and a bit before their second album comes out. Typical rock band instruments, plus a trumpet for one song that was just perfect for the song. They played some early stuff, they played some as yet unreleased stuff. Played a new version of old single "Made of Broken Glass" that melted my freaking mind. Played a little acoustic ditty from their earliest ep that was very nice. But most of the time, they just rocked out. Rocked hard enough to get a good portion of the crowd jumping and getting messy. The band sounds fantastic, better than the last time I caught them playing out live.
Oh, and did I mention? DAMN THIS PLACE IS LOUD! I'm struggling to remember the last time I went to a gig this painful. And I'm not just saying that in the old "I'm struggling to remember last weekend" way either. This place was just too loud. But then again, being the daft fool that I am, even after just being dismissed by the lead singer, I still wanted to be up front and up close to see this band.
By the time the brief encore was over, I was grinning like a fool, for I'd just seen a band I love do another awesome show. Their debut album was very impressive, but judging by what I heard tonight, their second album definitely shouldn't disappoint. Really looking forward to it.
