Death In Vegas
Richard Fearless
the Bumblebeez
oh wow. not quite what i expected either.
so we got there a bit late. the trains were doing weird and confusing things. by the time we got there, the Bumblebeez were half finished. an interesting band, i suppose. from what little i heard, they sounded like fun.
then the background music gradually faded into richard fearless' dj set. a dark, slow, dubby set. shame no one else seemed to be in the mood for dancing. went roaming around the venue looking for some missing memebers of this expedition. (apprently they were at the front. but you all saw me roaming around at the front too. curious.)
death in veags came out shouting. not vocally. musically. in fact, they were so "anti-rock" rock i don't think they ever spoke a single word to the crowd! after a minute of electrical noise and crowds cheering, they torn into a powerful rendition of the opener off their recent album, the totally rocking twins of leather/girls. from there on in they never gave the rock a break. all each and every single track played out was twisted and turned up to 11, if you know what i mean. the rock tracks rocked. the quiet tracks rocked. the dance tracks rocked. it was a relentless assult of pure rock. more rock than any rock band you could care to name.
and i say it was good. three nameless guitarists up front, building up the wall of sound. once in a while one of the core death in vegas members stepped out from behind the tape machines to add a 4th guitar. because any sane person could see, the one thing they weren't missing, were extra guitars. and death in vegas has so obviously gone insane. rock on.
it was loud. but it was right. to hear these songs played out like hard rock pieces, they were like totally new songs. in fact, i thought there were some totally new songs in there.
this was not what i expected. but it was brilliant! it's the kind of music i could listen to repeatly for days on end. it's what i wish rock could be. no front man. no ego. no crap lyrics. no rock star image. just about rock.
then we left and got stranded on the station for almost an hour. then we got to beecroft and ben and kristin tried to kill me so they'd become famous in the local newspapers.
and that was that. till next time, rock on.
