Radiohead.
OK Computer. 1997.
For years, I have been avoiding picking up this record. It seemed almost too oblivious a selection, too predictable for the collection. Plus I had taped myself a copy. But with the release of In Rainbows, I finally caved. The critically acclaimed, supposedly greatest album of the 90's. Well, at least as far as the rock-centric music rags could stomach. I guess from their perspective, yeah, this one's right up there. Easy to get your head lost in the sounds. Captivating. all encompassing digital world of doom, gloom and existential horror.
Kid A. 2000.
This is where I came in. the record that really made me pay attention to Radiohead. Had a cassette recording that I wore down to the canvas, or whatever it is cassette tapes are based on. This is the difficult, fan-alienating surprise electronic twist in the story that really caught my attention. Much more to my style.
