ENTREVISTADOR : Nuestra invitada de hoy es Denisse López. Bienvenida Denisse.
DENISSE : (Traductor) Siempre es un placer.
ENTREVISTADOR : ¿Cómo estás, Denisse? ¿Y cómo te estás ajustando al nuevo código?
DENISSE : ¿Nuevo código? ¿Cuál nuevo código?
ENTREVISTADOR : Un nuevo código de puntuación entró en efecto.
DENISSE : No sabía que se esté usando un nuevo código de puntuación.
ENTREVISTADOR : Estará en uso del 2001 al 2008.
DENISSE : En serio... bueno... en ese caso tal vez me alcanze para comprar uno por ahí del 2007, si el peso mantiene su valor frente al dólar.
INTERVIEWER : Today's guest is Denisse Lopez. Welcome Denisse.
DENISSE : (Translator) Always a pleasure.
INTERVIEWER : How are you Denisse? And how are you adjusting to the new code?
DENISSE : New code? What new code?
INTERVIEWER : A new code of points is in effect.
DENISSE : I was unaware that a new code of points is being used.
INTERVIEWER : It is in use from 2001 to 2008.
DENISSE : Really... well... in that case I might be able to afford one
by 2007, if the Mexican peso holds up in value against the dollar.
ENTREVISTADOR : Un código nuevo no es tan caro. ¿Por qué no le pides a la Federación Mexicana de Gimnasia que te dé un código nuevo?
DENISSE : ¿Pedirle a la Federación? ¿Lo dices en serio? Después de escuchar del desorden en el que está la Federación de E.U., crees que realmente confiaría en la de México? Mira; sí, el peso Mexicano es débil en valor comparado con el dólar, pero la verdad es que mis compañeros de equipo y yo gastamos bastante dinero en asegurar que Bob Colarossi se quede en los E.U. y que no venga a desordenar nuestra organización.
ENTREVISTADOR : Ya veo a lo que te refieres. ¿Pasamos a la siguiente pregunta?
DENISSE : Sí.
INTERVIEWER :A new code isn't that expensive. Why don't you ask the Mexican Gymnastics Federation if they could provide you with a new code?
DENISSE : Ask the Federation? Are you serious? After hearing how messed up the U.S. Federation is, do you think I'd really trust the one in Mexico? See, yes, the Mexican peso is weak in value compared to the dollar, but the truth of the matter is that my teammates and I spend quite a bit of money to make sure that Bob Colarossi stays in the U.S and does not come to Mexico and mess up our organization.
INTERVIEWER : I see your point. Shall we move onto the next question?
DENISSE : Yes.
ENTREVISTADOR : Si no tenías una edición 1997-2000 del código, ¿cuál edición tenías, y qué te hizo subir la dificultad de tus saltos?
DENISSE : Estaba usando la edición 1992-1996 del código. Lo que me hizo darme cuenta de que necesitaba subir la dificultad de mis salto fue ver el valor de inicio en el Campeonato Mundial. Estaba realmente en shock de ver que mi salto Omelianchik sólo tenía un valor inicial de 9.7. En consecuencia, perdí la concentración y tuve un saltito extra en el aterrizaje.
ENTREVISTADOR : Qué mal. Tu salto Barani extendido fue muy bueno, y recibió 9.712 -sólo 6 milésimas por debajo del promedio de los dos saltos de Zamo.
DENISSE : Gracias.
INTERVIEWER :If you did not have a 1997-2000 edition of the code, what edition did you have, and what made you upgrade the difficulty of your vaults?
DENISSE : I was using the 1992-1996 edition of the code. The thing that made me realize that I needed to upgrade the difficulty of my vault was seeing the start value at the World Championships. I was really shocked to see that my Omelianichek only had a 9.7 Start Value. As a result, I lost my concentration and took a hop on the landing.
INTERVIEWER : That's too bad. Your layout Barani was quite good, and received a 9.712 -only 6 thousandths less than Zamo's two vault average.
DENISSE : Thank you.
ENTREVISTADOR : Más adelante en los eventos del Grand Prix, mejoraste a un salto Podkopayeva. Sin el nuevo código ¿cómo sabías que este salto tendría un valor competitivo en el código?
DENISSE : Llegué a la arena (en Tianjín) unos minutos antes del calentamiento y le eché un vistazo a la copia de los jueces. Así fue como averigüé que el mortal extendido de frente con giro completo y el Podkopyeva extendido tenían valor inicial de 10.0. Desafortunadamente, Jackie Fie me vio, y no estaba muy contenta al respecto. Pero creo que pensó que era Produnova. Pobre Elena, le jugaron chueco en la final de salto por mi culpa.
ENTREVISTADOR : Ya veo. Un método muy... mmm... único de determinar los valores iniciales.
DENISSE : Gracias. Espero ansiosamente mi siguiente competencia para poder echarle un ojo a este 'nuevo código' del que hablas.
ENTREVISTADOR : Produnova ya se retiró, pero podrías meter en problemas a otra gimnasta si Jackie te cacha.
DENISSE : Es cierto...
INTERVIEWER : Later in the Grand Prix events, you upgraded to a Podkopayeva. Without the new code, how did you know this vault would have a competitive start value in the code?
DENISSE : I got to the arena (in Tianjin) a few minutes before warm-ups and snuck a look in the judges' copy. It's how I found out the full twisting front layout and layout Podkopayeva had 10.0 start values. Unfortunately, Jackie Fie saw me though, and wasn't too happy about it. I think she thought I was Produnova though. Poor Elena got screwed in vault finals because of me.
INTERVIEWER : I see. Very um... unique method for determining start values.
DENISSE : Thank you. I can't wait till my next meet so I can take a peek at this 'new code' you speak of.
INTERVIEWER :Produnova has retired, but you might get another gymnast in trouble if Jackie catches you.
DENISSE : That's true...
ENTREVISTADOR : Ya que casi se nos acaba el tiempo, te tengo sólo unas pocas preguntas más. Primero, tienes una forma de correr muy interesante.
DENISSE : ¿Yo? ¿Una forma de correr interesante? *se ríe* ¡Si quieres ver una carrera interesante ve a Laura Martínez! ESA sí que es una carrera interesante. *se ríe más* Para serte honesta, creo que esa fue la VERDADERA razón por la que Simona tuvo un aterrizaje tan malo en su Yurchenko con 2 1/2 giros. Ella pasó después de Laura, y probablemente perdió la concentración después de ver a Laura saltar. Pero supongo que te puedo contar como desarrollé mi técnica.
ENTREVISTADOR : Eso sería estupendo.
INTERVIEWER : Since we're almost out of time, I have just a few more questions. First, you have a very interesting vault run.
DENISSE : Me? An interesting vault run? *laughs* If you want to see an interesting vault run watch Laura Martinez! Now THAT is an interesting vault run. *laughs some more* To be honest, I think that is the REAL reason, Simona had such a poor landing on her 2 1/2 twisting Yurchenko. She was up after Laura, and probably lost her concentration after watching Laura vault. I suppose, I can tell you how I developed my technique though.
INTERVIEWER : That would be great.
DENISSE : Bueno, mira, el gimnasio donde empezé era muy pequeño. No teníamos una pista lo suficientemente larga para el salto de caballo y el techo estaba muy bajo. Para solucionar estos dos problemas, pusimos el caballo afuera del gimnasio. Eso nos dio el espacio que necesitábamos para correr, y nos evitó chocar contra el techo cuando saltábamos. *se le llenan de lágrimas los ojos* Hace mucho calor en México durante el día por el sol intenso, y la parte de la pista que estaba afuera se ponía muy caliente. Me imaginé que dando pasos más pequeños, pero más rápidos, se me facilitaría terminar la carrera y bueno, tú sabes el resto.
ENTREVISTADOR : Esa es una historia interesante.
DENISSE : ¡Pues gracias! ¡Eso fue lo que pensé yo también!
ENTREVISTADOR : Mmm... ¿eso qué significa?
DENISSE : ¡Que la inventé! Mira, necesito algo así, si es que la cadena de televisión NBC algún día hace alguno de esos reportajes dramáticos acerca de mí.
DENISSE : Well, you see the gym I started out in was very small. We didn't have a full vault runway, and the ceiling was very low. To solve these two problems, the horse was placed outside of the gym. That gave us the amount of room we need to do our vault runs, and prevented us from crashing into the ceiling when we vaulted. *gets teary eyed* It gets very hot in Mexico in the day time due to the intense sun, and the portion of the runway outside would get very hot. I felt that taking smaller, but quicker steps made it easier to finish the run, and well you know the rest.
INTERVIEWER : That's an interesting story.
DENISSE : Why thank you! I thought so too!
INTERVIEWER : Um... what does that mean?
DENISSE : I made it up! You see, I need something like that, if NBC ever does a fluff piece on me.
ENTREVISTADOR : Ya veo. La última pregunta. ¿Qué piensas acerca de cómo se calificó el salto Phelps en el último cuadrienio?
DENISSE : Para ser perfectamente honesta, la forma de calificar el Phelps fue bastante ridícula. Simona, querida, se llama Phelps EXTENDIDO; ah, y por cierto, ¿podrías decirle también a tus compañeras de equipo? Tal vez yo debería de darles clases de cómo mantener una posición extendida durante sus saltos, ¡y a cambio ellas podrían darme una copia del nuevo código!
ENTREVISTADOR : A mí me suena bien. Bueno, ese es todo el tiempo que tenemos por hoy. Muchas gracias por tu tiempo, Denisse.
DENISSE : ¡De nada!
INTERVIEWER : I see. Here is the last question. What did you think about the scoring of the Phelps in the last quadrennium?
DENISSE : To be perfectly honest, the scoring of the Phelps was pretty ridiculous. Simona, dear, it's called a LAYOUT Phelps, oh and by the way, can you tell your team mates that too? Maybe I should give them lessons on maintaining a layout position during their vaults, and in return they could give me a copy of the new code!
INTERVIEWER : Sounds good to me. Well, that's all the time we have for today. Thank you for your time, Denisse.
