The Legend (some true facts too) It has always been the story running in the family that we originally came from SCOTLAND. The fact that the family acquired the french citizenship in the year 1600 and the fact that GLENARD actually means something in Gaelic ("high valley") tend to bring some interest to the legend. The story could very well be that of Irish settlers in Scotland (as many others) who, being catholics, had to leave the country in the aftermath of the murder of Mary Queen of Scots. At the time, Ireland had its own problems of poverty, therefore the natural impulse would have been to head to France, the Auld Ally. Hard to tell if some stayed in England or went back to Ireland, but anyway, there are leads in both countries, leads that need exploring.
All information and help from distant cousins will be appreciated.
