ISP561 Internet and Information Access, Spring 2009 |

Designed as an introduction to the Internet and its resources and web page creation, this course is a combination of lecture and hands-on lab sessions. The class sessions and assignments will emphasize an understanding of the Internet and its use in libraries, basic XHTML, CSS, and Web 2.0 tools.
Specifically, students should,
upon completion of this course, be familiar with:
Topics will include an introduction to and overview of the Internet, access paths, protocols and software; locating and evaluating sources and resources; print vs. electronic resources--a basis for determining when to choose which source type; an introduction to issues of the Internet--equal access, filters, "collection development" as impacted by the Internet, censoring and intellectual freedom; basic XHTML, CSS, editors, Web page creation and design, and Web 2.0 tools. This course will meet 13 times, Mondays from 4:30PM-7:15PM, January 26 through May 11 in the Mid-Hudson Library System Auditorium,Poughkeepsie.
