Some Savings! The Bramber Parish Council decided one day in 1974 to have the hydro disconnected from their church for three days in an attempt to save some money, and so it was done.
In a later meeting, the parish treasurer proudly announced that, as a result of the disconnection, a total of £11.59 had been saved. And there was much rejoicing!
However, he added that there was a hydro bill of £18.48 for switching the hydro off, and another bill of £12 even to switch it back on!
It had cost the parish council £18.89 to spend three days in total darkness.
(Rumour has it that there was very little rejoicing after that!)
