Ruined Rescue When a firemen's strike threatened the welfare of the population, the government quickly called in the army to replace the absent firefighters. They were doing pretty darned good, too, until January 14, 1978.
On that day, a little old lady called the fire department. Panicked, upset, and sobbing, she announced that her beloved kitty was trapped in a tree. Concerned for pussy's well-being, she begged help in rescuing her dear friend and companion.
Of course, the army sent out a brigade. They arrived so quickly, and rescued the kitten with such ease and dispatch, that the lady, in gratitude, invited them all in for a nice cup of tea.
When celebrations were finished, and all the tea and cookies were gone, the army returned to their fire truck, began to drive away... and ran over the cat.
