The first idea of playing together occurred in 1992, when we met at a Rock Festival here in S�o Paulo, Brazil, and started complaining about the lack of good traditional Heavy Metal bands, not only in that Festival, but in the music scene at all. So we decided to put a band together and a few days later we began the rehearsals, just playing some covers songs from Saxon, Judas Priest, AC/DC, but nothing serious. During the first years we play only in a few parties in the College. Only in 1998 we decided to take the band seriously and the reason was that in 1999 the 20th anniversary of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal would be celebrated and, as great fans of that era, we had to do something about it. So we made a list of some of the best bands of that era and started rehearsing (serious for the first time) and along with covers we began to write songs. The first promo-tape is untitled �We Wear...�, which was recorded in 2000, and have two of our own songs (�More You Sweat� and �Lot To Lose�) and one cover/medley of Witchfinder General. On Setember/2001, we recorded a promo-cd, untitled �Too Damn Loud!� which contain 3 of our own songs (�Watch Out�, �Hatred� and �Fist In The Air�) and a Tygers Of Pan Tang�s cover.
This is your second demo; which has been the reactions of press and fans to your works?
Excellent! The reactions have been much better that we could ever imagine. When we started to write these songs, we never though we could have such great reactions and never cared much about it. That�s the kind of Metal that we like it and that�s what we are going to play. But it�s very good to know that there are a lot of fans of our old-fashioned Metal style around the world.
Next plans? "Too Damn Loud" was recorded in 2001, are you now working to new songs?
Yes. In 2002 we recorded a song to a Tribute CD to MOTORHEAD that should be out now, but unfortunately it will take a few more months and should be on stores by the middle of 2003. Right now we have five new songs ready and in April 2003 we will record one of them to a compilation CD of brazilian unsigned bands and after that we will record a song to another Tribute album, and after that we don�t know yet.
Which are your favorite bands from NWOBHM movement?
Oh, it�s a very long list, here we go to some of them: ANGEL WITCH, SAXON, BLITZKRIEG, CHATEAUX, WITCHFINDER GENERAL, HOLOCAUST, SWEET SAVAGE, RAVEN, CRUCIFIXION, WHITE SPIRIT, etc. We run a web site about the NWOBHM, you all can check http://www.nwobhm.cjb.net, and there you can find the TOP NWOBHM ALBUMS in our opinion.
Talking about your "live" activity: do you play many gigs in Brazil?
Not as many as we'd like. Unfortunately concert producers are giving preference to cover bands, and the venues where should be playing original Heavy Metal bands are now infected with Bruce Dickinson Cover, Nightwish Cover, Blind Guardian Cover, etc. Another thing is that in Brazil we have a great Black Metal scene and a great Melodic/Prog Metal scene too, and it�s not easy to find a gig of a Traditional Heavy Metal band like us. Besides that, we usually have a great answer from the headbangers in the audience, and the gigs have been great.
Which are the cover songs usually you include in your set-list?
The only cover songs that we play on our gigs are from the NWOBHM and we try to change them each gig. Some of the bands that we play are: WITCHFINDER GENERAL, SAMSON, GASKIN, DIAMOND HEAD, VENOM, HOLOCAUST, TYSONDOG, DEMON, WHITE SPIRIT, TYGERS OF PAN TANG, SAXON, ANGELWITCH, etc. We will keep playing and recording NWOBHM cover songs because we like them, and we have a lot of fun doing that. But I think I need to say that we don�t play everything, every note, just like the original. We play on our own way, and our goal is to write more songs and have a set list based on our songs.
Are you in contact with some label for a possible debut-album?
Not yet. We have some contacts to Tribute albums, Compilations, but not to a debut-album yet. But we hope this will change until the end of this year (2003).
Do you know some italian band?
Of course. Now a days RHAPSODY, LABYRINTH, DOMINE, ELDRITCH and TIME MACHINE are really big here in Brazil, especially Rhapsody, which have a lot of fans here. But they don't play my favorite kind of music. My favorite Italian bands are DEATH SS, WHITE SKULL (specially the Embittered album) and BULLDOZER (my favorite one).
What do you think about the modern metal scene?
It�s a very long discussion. We don�t like that New Metal crap. Bands like Limp Biskuit, Korn have nothing to do with Heavy Metal. But they are not the only thing in the actual Metal scene. There are tons of Melodic/Prog Metal bands around and most of them sound just the same. And all those Extreme Black Metal bands trying to play faster than each other, and some of them using machine drums, because no human being can play that fast. There is no fun doing that. We don�t live in the 80�s no more. There are a lot of kids around trying to play like the 80�s, but they didn�t lived that time and they think that it was like a paradise, but they don't know anything. We have been into Metal since 83/84, I joined my first band in 87 and we know how it was. We know that there were some good and some bad stuff. I see a lot of kid�s band singing songs about �fighting for Metal� but they are singing in a figurate way. Back in the 80�s there were some real fights between gangs. And this was no good. And today we fear that a band that we like turn into New Metal, back in the 80�s we had the fear that they turn into Hard Rock/Poser stuff, like some of them did it. We like some new bands, some are playing just like the 80�s which is good and some are bringing new things to Metal which is good too. Heavy Metal is a kind of music with a lot of energy, and we need that energy, new energy. Is not a mistake to mix Metal and some other kind of music, like Metal and Punk that turned into Thrash Metal which is good, but Metal and Rap turn into shit. So we like that old-fashioned Traditional Heavy Metal, but I don�t see as a good future if every band sounds just like that. There is also some good new Gothic Metal, Melodic Metal, Extreme Black Metal, Symphonic Metal, etc bands around the world, and I think this may be good.
Unfortunately, I know just a few of "true '80 metal" bands from Brazil; which are for you the best and promising bands of your country?
If you like true �80 Metal style, I think you should listen to HELLISH WAR, STEEL LORD, TUATHA DE DANNAN and DOMINUS PRAELLI. If you are into Death/Thrash Metal go look for TORTURE SQUAD, DROWNED and BYWAR. These are the promising bands that really deserve your time. If you are looking for bands from the 80�s, our favorite ones are VIRUS, CENT�RIAS, HARPIA, DORSAL ATL�NTICA, PATRULHA DO ESPA�O, VULCANO, MADE IN BRAZIL, OVERDOSE, etc.

L�idea di suonare assieme � nata nel 1992, quando ci incontrammo al Rock Festival qui a San Paolo, in Brasile, e cominciammo a parlare lamentandoci dello stato attuale dell�heavy metal pi� tradizionale, sia riferendoci al festival in corso, sia alla scena metal attuale. Cos� decidemmo di mettere su una band, cosa che avvenne qualche giorno dopo, per suonare cover songs di Saxon, Judas Priest e Ac/dc, ma non si trattava di un progetto ambizioso. Nei primi anni abbiamo suonato solo a qualche party nel College... Solo nel 1998 abbiamo deciso di dedicare seriamente pi� tempo alla band, e la ragione che ci spinse a ci� fu l�anniversario del 1999 del ventesimo anniversario della New Wave of British Heavy Metal; da grandi bands di quell�era, decidemmo di celebrarlo come si deve! Mettemmo gi� una lista delle nostre band preferite e incominciammo a provare seriamente le cover scelte, e i pezzi nostri che incominciammo a scrivere. Il promo promo-tape, che si chiama �We Wear...� venne registrato nel 2000 e conteneva due nostre canzoni (�More you Sweat� e �Lot to Lose�) e una cover/medley dei Witchfinder General. Nel settembre del 2001 abbiamo invece registrato il promo Cd intitolato �Too Damn Loud!�, che contiene tre nostre nuove canzoni (�Watch Out�, �Hatred� e �Fist in the Air�) pi� una cover dei Tygers of Pan Tang.
E com�� stata sinora la reazione della stampa e del pubblico a questa vostra ultima registrazione?
Eccellente! La reazione di tutti � stata migliore di quanto ci aspettassimo. Quando incominciammo a scrivere quei pezzi, non avremmo mai pensato di ottenere dei risultati del genere! Questo � il tipo di metal che ci piace, e che quindi vogliamo suonare; ed � davvero bello sapere che ci sono ancora tantissimi fans del nostro �old-fashioned metal style� nel mondo!
Per quanto riguarda l�immediato futuro? �Too Damn Loud� � stato registrato nel 2001, al momento state scrivendo nuovi pezzi?
S�, nel 2002 abbiamo registrato una canzone per un Cd tributo ai Motorhead, che sarebbe dovuto gi� essere fuori, invece ci vorr� ancora qualche mese, sar� nei negozi dalla met� del 2003. Abbiamo inoltre cinque nuove canzoni nostre pronte e ad Aprile registreremo una di queste per una compilation che conterr� canzoni di gruppi brasiliani senza contratto; dopo di questo registreremo un'altra canzone per un album tributo.
So che non � facile rispondere, se non con un lunghissimo elenco, ma vorrei sapere quali sono le vostre bands preferite del movimento NWOBHM...
Oh, s�, � davvero una lista lunga, ten e dico solo qualcuna: Angel Witch, Saxon, Blitzkrieg, Chateaux, Witchfinder General, Holocaust, Sweet Savage, Raven, Crucifixion, White Spirit... Parliamo invece della vostra attivit� live: suonate spesso in Brasile?
Non quanto vorremmo. Sfortunatamente i promoter dei concerti danno la preferenza alle cover band, e cos� i locali nei quali potrebbero suonare originali Heavy Metal bands, sono invece pieni zeppi di cover band di Bruce Dickinson, Nigthwish, Blind Guardian, etc...Un altro fatto da tenere in considerazione � che qui in Brasile sono molto seguite le scene Black Metal e Melodic/Prog Metal, quindi come puoi capire non � facile che una band di Hm tradizionale come la nostra trovi posti per suonare. A parte questo, devo dire comunque che in tutti i concerti che abbiamo fatto c�� stata una grandissima risposta da parte degli headbangers del pubblico, e gli show sono andati alla grande!
Quali sono le cover songs che includete solitamente nella vostra scaletta live?
Tutte le cover che suoniamo sono rigorosamente brani dalla NWOBHM, ma ogni volta cerchiamo di cambiarli o alternarli. Tra le band che abitualmente coverizziamo ci sono Witchfinder General, Saxon, Gaskin, Diamone Head, Venom, Holocaust, Tyson Dog, Demo, White Spirit, Tygers of Pan Tang, Saxon e Angel Witch. Continueremo tra l�altro anche a registrare alcune di queste cover NWOBHM, perch� ci piacciono e ci piace farle. Penso sia necessario dire che non suoniamo niente, nessuna nota, come l�originale, ma le suoniamo nel nostro stile. Il nostro obiettivo � comunque scrivere pi� songs nostre, in modo da poter avere una set list basata esclusivamente sui nostri brani.
Siete in contatto con qualche etichetta per un possibile debutto?
Non ancora; abbiamo parecchi contatti per quanto riguarda i Tribute albums o le compilation, ma non ancora per un disco di debutto. Spero che entro la fine di quest�anno ci arrivi qualche buona offerta!
Conosci qualche band italiana?
Of course!! Oggi gruppi quali Rhapsody, Labyrinth, Domine, Eldritch e Time Machine sono molto seguite qui in Brasile, specialmente I Rhapsody, che hanno tantissimi fans. Ma questi gruppi non suonano il mio genere preferito; le bands italiane che pi� apprezzo infatti sono i Death SS, i White Skull, specialmente l�album �Embittered� e i Bulldozer, sicuramente i miei preferiti.
Domanda immancabile: cosa ne pensi della scena metal attuale?
E� un discorso molto lungo; We don�t like that New Metal crap! Gruppi quali Limp Bizkit o Korn non hanno nulla a che fare con l�Heavy Metal; ma non sono l�unico esempio nella scena metal attuale. Ci sono tonnellate di Melodic/Prog Metal bands in giro, quasi tutte uguali. Poi ci sono miriadi di queste Extreme Black Metal bands che cercano ciascuna di suonare pi� veloce dell�altra, ma va a finire che devono usare una drum machine, perch� nessun essere umano pu� suonare a quelle velocit�. Ci sono poi molti ragazzi che cercano di suonare come negli �80, ma non hanno vissuto quel periodo e pensano che sia stato tutto un paradiso, non sanno niente. Noi seguiamo la scena dagli anni 1983/84, io sono entrato nella mia prima band nel 1987 e so bene come andava tutto; c�erano belle cose, cos� come altre davvero brutte. Ho visto molti gruppi di ragazzi cantare canzoni in cui si diceva �fighting for Metal�, ma lo dicono solo in maniera figurata; invece negli �80 c�erano davvero battaglie reali tra gangs. E questo non era bello. Cos� come oggi abbiamo la paura che qualche band si metta a fare Nu Metal, negli anni Ottanta c�era la paura che si mettessero a fare robe Hard Rock o poser, come molti hanno proprio fatto. Comunque ci sono band attuali che ci piacciono: ce ne sono alcune che suonano nello stile �80, ed � una bella cosa, cos� come ce ne sono di altre che hanno cercato di portare nuove cose all�interno dell�heavy metal. L�heavy metal � un tipo di musica con molta energia, che ha bisogno di quell�energia, di nuova energia. Non � per� un errore mixare il metal con altre forme di musica: da metal e punk � nato il thrash, che � una gran cosa, ma da metal e rap e venuta fuori invece una merlata. A noi piace l�old-fashioned e tradizionale Heavy Metal, ma non vedo un futuro roseo se tutte le band si mettessero a fare questo. Devo dire che ci sono anche buone cose all�interno Gothic Metal, del Melodic Metal, del Black, del Symphonic metal, etc... E alla fine � solo una cosa positiva.
Sfortunatamente conosco solo pochi gruppi brasiliani devoti al vero e tradizionale heavy metal ottantiano; quali sono per te le migliori e pi� promettenti bands del tuo paese?
A chi cerca il �true �80 metal style�, dovrebbero piacere senz�altro Hellish War, Steel Lord, Tuatha de Dannan e Dominus Praelli. Per quanto riguarda il death/thrash invece meritano senz�altro Torture Squad, Drowned e Bywar. Queste sono tutte bands promettenti che meritano di essere ascoltate. Per quanto riguarda invece le bands brasiliane degli anni Ottanta, le nostre preferite sono Virus, Centurias, Harpia, Dorsal Atlantica, Patrulha do Espa�o, Vulcano, Made in Brasil e Overdose.
