How to Ward Off Second Sock Syndrome

Second Sock Syndrome, or commonly known as SSS, is a dreadful disease that strikes sock knitters rapidly without warning. This highly contagious disease is so easily transmitted that is can hit isolated knitters even through quartantine. Knitters will not show symptoms until the disease has fully developed. There are no known ways to prevent this horrible disease.
But there are a variety of to treat this illiness when it strikes.
Some knitters in an effort to prevent it will cast on both socks at once, working on both, switching back and forth until both socks are done. Many knitters swear by this cure, pointing out having two socks done fairly close to one another.
This is a great idea, but I don't have two sets of DPNs in most sizes and I would have to split my ball of yarn in half to be able to do this.
Others learn techniques to knit two socks at once such as the Magic Loops method.
Lovely idea, but two circulars and me? Can we say tangled circulars? It was not pretty
I take other measures... Yes the picture above are my large feet (Can we say Mens, yes Mens, size 10 1/2 size feet? Yes, I am female but I have very large feet. Hence yet another reason why I love knitting my own socks). Now this only works when it is socks for me, but I when the first sock is done, I will place said new sock on my feet. My feet are easily charmed and seduced. they love beautiful, colorful socks that fit. They get bored with boring old mens socks that I have to buy. Women's socks never fit me, the heel ends up in the arch of my foot and the socks end up puddled in the bottom of my shoes. So, my feet get excited about handknitted socks. And if I put on the first sock on one foot, the other foot gets jealous. The leftout foot will beg, plead, whimper, whine, whatever it takes to get its sock too.
It's strange, it's weird, but hey it works. So far, I have no lonely, single socks laying around.
