A Tale of Two Socks: The Sock Player

They were the best of socks, and the worse of socks. (humble apologies to Charles Dickens) Normally, I cast on one project at a time and stick to it until it's done. (We'll ignore the two shawls on needles in the other room. They don't count because they aren't socks). Sure sometimes, I'll set the project down for several days. But for the most part, I'm a one project woman.

Until this week.

Last Sunday, I cast on my Wooly Wonka Fibers socks, cheerfully knitting away on the leg. But at 72 stitches on size 2 needles and 4k4p ribbing, the legs were taking forever. I learned to knit socks on size 6 needles with worsted weight yarn. In a normal week with worsted weight yarn, I can whip out a pair of socks in 4-5 days no problem. This is only my second pair of TFN (tiny flipping needles) socks. The first was the Austermann Step socks that were also my first pair of self-striping. The self-striping yarn was enough to keep my entertaining through all those tiny, neverending stitches.

So to ease my frustrated mind, an hour before I went to bed on Monday night, I dug out a skein of Lorna's Laces Lion and Lamb. This stuff I purchased for the ultimate luxury socks, 50% silk, 50% wool and I dare you to be able to feel the wool in these puppies. Butter is rougher than this yarn! And being worsted weight, nearly heavy worsted, on size 7 dpn they whip out really quick.

This probably makes me sock player; when one bores me, I go find another one to amuse me until I can go back to the first one and face the music. So far, I've been able to balance the two. The first Wooly Wonka sock is about 2/3 done but I have a feeling I'll be finishing the Lorna's Lace sock before I tackle the second Wooly Wonka sock.

In the news: I have added a lot more knitting links to my links page and I dropped the entry page from my website so you now directly go into the main page and get to the meat of things right off the bag instead of having to go through this and that just to be able to get somewhere.

My confession for today: I...um....*cough*fell off my yarn diet last night*cough*. I found Little Knits last night while listening to Lime and Violet. Little Knits deals almost eclusively in discontinued and closeout yarns. And not just crummy yarns either, we are talking Noro, Fleece Artist, Cherry Hill, Opal to name just a few of the brands they carry. All at really great prices.

In no time flat, I have a skein of Schafer Anne, 3 skeins of Crystal Palace Wool, and a skein of Fleece Artist in my cart and checked out. Enough for at least 3 more pairs of socks. After I checked out, I found enough yarn for at least 3 more, but I'm afraid a divorce would really take a huge chunk out of the yarn budget.
