The Kindness of Knitters
photo
Today I received my blog prize from NotScarlett. Please go check out her blog at: http://notscarlett.typepad.com/. Her blog is funny, refreshing and the ongoing dog saga is great reading. I’m rooting for the dog to go home with her.

The yarn is absolutely fabulous! Soft and squashy and so richly dyed in damn near hurts my eyes in a good way. I think I must acquire myself some more Fearless Fibers. Not that I need more sock yarn.

The stitch markers are so beautiful I’m half afraid to use them; charming, rustic nuggets of turquoise and a single soft pink pearl one. They are beautiful and just cry out to be used on a lovely shawl or lace. I’m seriously considering making the kimono shawl from Folk Shawls with these lovely stitch makers and some Jagger Zephyr. I think they’ll be a match made from heaven.

Yes, a few chocolates had to be properly “sampled” before the photo shoot. I just got home from a long day of work with the lingering, never ending migraine headache. And we all know Dove dark chocolate is the cure for all headaches.

I’ve always heard legends and myths about the kindness of knitters. Just spend much time reading any knitting blog and you’ll see what I mean. Knit-alongs for charities, raffles for more charities, donations of money and knitted objects to the needy in every country of the world. The support and love that knitters have for each other in one of the greatest things about knitting.

The communitiness of knitters is one of the many things about knitting that keeps me knitting regardless of how bad I’ve f*#@! my last project. I can always find myself a place among knitters. It’s a rare feeling for someone who has spent much of her life feeling like an outsider no matter how long she hung around or tried to fit in. There is no newbieness with knitters. No trial period. Just welcome and what’s on your needles. You can instantly feel part no matter where you are in the world as long as you are with knitters.

This blog prize just goes to secure in my heart the high esteem I hold knitters. I, who is notoriously unemotional when others get emotional, get a little misty-eyed over this. Where else can you think of strangers offering to send you yarn out of their stash? The greatest possession of any knitter? I can’t imagine any other group of people doing that.
Thank you for welcoming me to the party. I’m glad I came.

Awww! You're too sweet. I'm thrilled that you like your package, and hope you enjoy using everything as much as I enjoyed picking it out.
