The Little Stash That Could

My yarn stash is...well not a stash yet...it's more of a baby stashette that would like to grow up to be a stash that has taken over the house, bosses the cats about and has me as its devoted priestess. But for the moment, these are all pot dreams of my baby stashette.

My baby stashette consist of enough yarn to knit 13 pairs of socks, perhaps 2 sweaters, 4 skeins of laceweight and assorted skeins leftover from projects all dumped into 2 wicker laundry baskets. Real yarn stashs laugh in the face of my baby stashette.

I hear the whisperings of my stash and know it needs to be fed; the more, the merrier. A trip to Jackson; added a skein of laceweight rayon/fax, 2 skeins of cotton for summer socks, 2 skeins of bamboo for anklets. A sale at my LYS help feed even further. But yet, this is not enough. It wants more, more. "Feed me!" it says to me.

And then there was a weekend...[drumroll please]

The Snake River Fiber Fair

There are much bigger fiber fairs out there but none in my town. It caters mostly to spinners. But where there are spinners, there is handspun, handdyed yarns. I'm there. And, oh darn, my husband was out of town. The only limiting factor was the amount of money on the debt card.

The stashette grew, enough yarn for 7 more pairs of socks: 390 yards of Wooly Wonka 60% superwash merino, 30% bamboo, 10% nylon in colorway Nantucket, 400 yards 100% BFL superwash wool in colorway Northern Lights were in my hands as soon as I was in the door, shortly afterwards, 3 skeins of alpaca from Alta Mist Alpacas in their Misty Vision quickly joined the sock yarn. A clearance basket in another room yielded 2 skeins of Regia Cotton Sock for $2 a skein. 3 skeins of Panda Cotton sock yarn begged to join the party quickly afterwards. My sister is to blame for the last skein of sock yard, handdyed of 70% merino, 30% silk from Knit Together by Deborah Bass that had to join the orgie. The crowning glory is 2 skeins, 550 yards of handdyed rayon yarn with silver metallic in the DeepSpace colorway by Blue Heron Yarns.

The stashette is happy. But only for the moment.
