Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

I’m knitting plain, boring socks out of black Lion Microspun for a reason; my excuse is that my poor mother, who is allergic to wool, needs another pair of summer weight socks. But in reality, I’m avoiding having to make a decision on what to knit next. All these lovely new sock yarns plus many great ones that have been hanging around for awhile are all screaming for my attention.

I sit in my living room staring at all the sock yarns on the coffee table (I told you I was going to use them for décor) listening to them yell, “Knit me! I’m hand painted!” from the Fleece Artist, “No, knit me, I’ve got mohair and nylon!” from the Schaefer Anne who is immediately pushed out of the way by the Austermann Step, “Bull crap, I have aloe and jojoba oil, knit me! I’ll make you feet soft!” The Step is drowned out by hand painted Cherry Tree Hill, “I’m the ultimate sock yarn! Knit Me!” This immediately insults the Wooly Wonka yarn, the Crystal Palace Panda Wool and the countless others displayed on the table, all more beautiful and wonderful as the last. Who needs voices in their head to drive them crazy when they have talking sock yarns screaming for their complete attention?

Promising them that they will all get their turn does not satisfy a single one of them. No is not in their vocabulary.

So in the meantime, I knit on my bland, boring black, mass-produced Lion Microspun overwhelmed, staring at my sock yarns like they just might bite me. People warned me stashes could be dangerous to my health. They are absolutely right.
