' (Doubling of a
vowel after a syllable)
There are only 24 "letters" in the alphabet. The apostrophe
after each letter represents the lengthening of a preceding vowel sound (i.e. c' = paa).
Virtually all native Kanasa words have at most 3 syllables (3 letters). All
foreign words are distinguished by the lengthening of the first vowel sound in
the word. (i.e. Canada = l'uf ).
