Play Gossip from Ethics in Action, What We Say.  Follow w/discussion.  Discuss different methods of communication.  Invent a den code and send messages.

All boys to prepare three minute talk on a subject of their choice.

Assign two boys to prepare and conduct the opening ceremony using sign language or a secret code.  (If a code is used, everyone will be given a key)

Conduct one of the “Hearing” activities from the Ethics in Action module, “Be Aware and Care-2.”  Follow with a discussion. 

Have boys give their 3-minute talks as assigned last week.

All boys to research and learn the names of the President and Vice President of the United States.  In addition, know the name of the Governor of Virginia and Chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors..

Book Signing

Sign boy’s books for activity badge requirements passed.

 

Closing

Gather the boys in a circle.  Give denner the Boy Scout handclasp.  Pass it around the circle and explain that the Scout handshake signifies friendship.  It is given with the left hand, as it is closets to the heart.

Demonstrate and practice U.S. flag ceremonies.  Discuss flag history and how to respect the flag.

All boys test on the names of the President and Vice President of the United States, the Governor of Virginia and the Chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.

Repeat the Pledge of Allegiance from memory.  Explain it’s meaning in simple terms and lead the den in reciting the pledge.

Prepare for U.S. flag quiz

Read and study the history of the national anthem.

Be prepared to discuss a boy whom you believe to be a good citizen and what he does to make you think he is a good citizen.

List three people you believe to be good citizens (they can be from any country) and discuss your reasons why they are good citizens.

Two boys will be selected to conduct the opening and closing ceremony for next meeting.
