NIGHT TIME THIEVERY
Suddenly, my eyes snapped open. Normally after a nightmare I would have woken up yelling and flailing, but this was different. I was stiff, stretched out with my covers over me. For a second, I thought that horrible nightmare was real, or something weird like that. Then I heard the floorboards creak. Images of my dream came flooding back to me. I imagined everything from me trying to run from some crazed lunatic, and the total darkness surrounding me. Then my mind came back, and I began thinking how silly that was. I took a quick glance towards my window. I looked at the clock. It had just turned 5:27 A.M. and I needed to get sleep before school. I looked around the room once more, acting on paranoia, and then covered myself in three blankets.
My eyes started to drift, as did my thoughts when I saw a quick movement. My eyes and brain rehooked instantly. The blackness that covered the bottom half of my closet suddenly dropped. I realized that a person just retreated to the floor and was now slinking on all fours across the room. He couldn't move with speed or balance. He kept tipping over to his right side and it looked like something was slithering along behind him.
When he was almost at my bed, I saw a pale arm reach out. I shut my eyes, pretending to be asleep. I heard a crackling noise. After the noise had slightly faded and pulled away, I opened my eyes. As my eyes re-adjusted the blackness, I could see a pitch-black figure as he slouched down and drew further away. As he was inching his way towards my door, I slowly drew my arm out from under my blankets and let it fall to the floor, pretending I was just moving in my sleep.
The figure near my doorway stopped. He had a look of fear in his face, though I couldn't see it. He slowly turned around, and looked straight at me, then slowly carried on.
I felt cold plastic touch my drifting hand. Slowly but stealthily, I picked up the plastic and then clicked it. Just as a beam of light raced from the flashlight, I yelled, "GOT YA!!!!"
The person in the doorway jumped, alarmed at his own capture. Then he slowly hung his head. Then the little villain lifted his head and tuned slowly around. He looked straight at me, then he said, "Can I pweeeeze have some of your hawwowe'en candy? Pweeeeze??????" my baby-brother asked still clutching a huge sack.
